Thanks for the great overview! I am new and learning little by little. We have been layering on rules each game we play and it has helped! This next game coming up we will use Strategic ploys and command points. Some of the things I have learned that might help others are: Shock Assault is a second fight action which means the charged opponent also gets to fight in that action both times.

Very calm and easy overview of the basic rules! I'll be playing this soon for the first time and while I've read things, this video really helped me wrap my head around it. I haven't played 40k in maybe 10 years! Wish me luck with my Sisters Sororitas, they finally have plastic models! Yay!

For beginners: I think it should be mentioned the only way to get into the fight phase is if you charge, because you cannot get into engagement range of another operative with a move or dash. That’s what the charge action is for. I wish they empathize this more in the rules.

Oh there will be, this series is effectively more than just a "two parter" as these two videos are more broad stroke overview videos, with more to come that get into a lot more detail with more diagrams and examples. Had we gone into that level of depth in this video it would have been over an hour long!!! Stay tuned for the detailed examples you're looking for in the coming weeks :)

I didn't realize deployment is defender wholly followed by attacker. Seems like a pretty big change from what kill team/40k players are used to. Does it seem to make a big impact to gameplay (eg. Are defenders at a significant disadvantage since attackers get to deploy with full information)?
@StrategicAdvantage3 жыл бұрын
We've had a big think about this exact point. It seems this edition favors asymmetric boards for this very reason. In the rulebook they hint that you may want to consider asymmetric board setups but we think this is very relevant. As the defender you want your decision for drop zone to be relevant--its the only advantage you can leverage given the disadvantage you'll have in having to deploy all at once. In the end what it boils down to though is the defender will almost always deploy in cover with conceal orders so they cannot be shot and spend the first Turning Point moving into favorable positions and taking back points.

so when assigning equipment, can you assign the same equipment to multiple models, paying the EP cost, for example if i wanted to give photon grenades to three pathfinder units, which cost 2 EP each totaling 6 EP, could i do this? cause that's what I got when you said that some equipment can only be used once. meaning that the others could be used multiple times?
@StrategicAdvantage2 жыл бұрын
You got it! Unless indicated as such you can duplicate equipment across different operatives

Does Bolter Discipline work for Overwatch?
@StrategicAdvantage2 жыл бұрын
Overwatch is it’s own thing outside of activation, so it doesn’t interact with BD at all. You aren’t taking a “shoot” action, but the “overwatch” action.
@bradp64523 жыл бұрын
I think the weird zone between 1 and 2 inches for heavy terrain where you can be shot but cannot shoot is odd.
@StrategicAdvantage3 жыл бұрын
Yes you are right. There is a small band where you gain none of the benefits so positioning is key! In our experience it hasn’t come up yet where they band is relevant as long as you’re aware of it and choose your moves deliberately
@ZodiusXx3 жыл бұрын
8:22 just a heads up guys but you can move within engagement range, provided you don't finish within engagement range, of an enemy model that is currently engaged with another one of your models
@StrategicAdvantage3 жыл бұрын
Yes excellent point, we neglected to include that! Good on you for picking up on that! Thanks 👍🏻

Nice effort. But I'm scratching my head about your statements on Line of Sight. You say the book explains it well (I disagree), and that it is "honestly quite simple once you wrap your head around it." Just note that if you have to wrap your head around it, it's ... not simple. And if it's so simple, why might it be a sticking point for a lot of players?
@StrategicAdvantage2 жыл бұрын
That's fair. For what it's worth, we did learn it completely from the book and we present an entire separate video with explanations/examples to help others learn it. Our intent by the phrase "simple once you wrap your head around it" means that after you put in some work to understand the logic and the sequence, it's quite straightforward in application. I hope that explains our meaning!

Can you do the same action more than once
@StrategicAdvantage3 жыл бұрын
No, unless there is a specific rule or ploy that explicitly says you can the only action you can repeat is “Pass”
@maximem.ste-marie35783 жыл бұрын
why change the words " 2 inches" for " circle", etc ? seems confusing
@StrategicAdvantage3 жыл бұрын
Our best thought was to simplify rules writing…but it can be clunky at times. For what it’s worth after a couple games it just becomes second nature

Great video. The only thing I would ask is a more in depth video on obscuring terrain, because the book is absolute shit at it (honestly, whoever wrote the rules should be fired, I've never read a book that confuses fairly simple rules with bad writing as much as this one. 1st Edition AD&D
@StrategicAdvantage3 жыл бұрын
The rules are honestly a LOT better than the previous edition but are not without their rough spots for sure. We actually already released a video dedicated to line of sight (including obscuring) check out our channel page for our recent video releases!

These rules really suck. I want to like kill team and want to get into it, but putting things in terms of circle and triangle etc. just makes it not worth the effort to learn.
@StrategicAdvantage3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't get too hung up on the measurement shapes/colors. It is a weird decision they went with largely to make their rules writing easier (maybe?), but easy enough to convert into inches and ignore if you choose to. The rest of the game is a massive step forward for skirmish size tabletop wargaming, and having played many systems out there we really prefer this new edition to anything else we've come across. I'd recommend giving an honest try and not let the shapes overshadow all the positive there is in this edition!
@paultrasband3 жыл бұрын
@@StrategicAdvantage I appreciate the positive vibes. It DOES seem easy. Just awkwardly cumbersome. I can’t imagine saying “how many circles tall is that obstacle.”
@StrategicAdvantage3 жыл бұрын
What we do before a game is measure the terrain and determine ahead of time. Then all I have dedicated to memory is “-4 to go up, -2 to go down” for climbing and dropping. It’s a habit I (Emmanuel) got into with pre-game terrain discussion and SW Legion, and it helps the flow of the game tremendously
@theanimaster3 жыл бұрын
Also emphasize that if you can’t “see” an operative, you can’t shoot it - so you can’t shoot through solid walls. There has to be a break in the wall or a window. Though that seems obvious, there are plenty “as written” people who would love to exploit this.
@StrategicAdvantage3 жыл бұрын
You’re absolutely right. We cover this exactly in the follow up video released last week dedicated to Line of Sight!

On the topic of overwatch, the active engage token was shown - the graphic should really have indicated the already-activated (grey) engage token for clarity - as y’all mentioned here, you can only overwatch if all of your models have already been activated.
@StrategicAdvantage3 жыл бұрын
Hah! Good pick up. We kept the orange just for consistency sake but you are correct technically should be grey as it’s after you have no more models to activate. The fact that you’re picking up this subtlety means you have a good grasp of the rules, good on ya!
