Games Workshop have recently released some free rules for how to play Kill Team and a new Intercessor Team! I'll leave a link to this below as well as one for the JamHammer PayPal wallet if you would like to help to support the channel. Any donations would be gratefully received and will be put towards creating more and better content in the future: www.warhammer-community.com/2022/08/16/download-the-core-rules-for-kill-team-and-a-new-intercessor-team-for-free/ www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=SGLKW2EDJU8RS

Whoever came up with the idea of using those shapes for inches is a madman. So the triangle with 3 sides represents 1 inch. The circle with 1 side represents 2 inches The square with 4 sides represents 3 inches, The pentagon with 5 sides represents 6 inches. So logical!
@fabiweh746

at least flip triangle and circle, so ascending number of corners is comparable to ascending order of inches.

Just got my KillTeam boxset today, already warned the kids they have a duty to play the old man once its assembled and painted. This video really helped me get my head around the rules, I have never played a tabletop game before, I just like painting minis and have done since my D&D days in the late 80's.

That's literally the only reason I don't play 40k. It's one of the few tabletop wargames that still clings to mass activation. Even One Page Rules version of 40k uses alternating activations. It's significantly more fun and engaging, and frankly, feels more fair.
@JamHammer

@@ForTheOmnissiah yeah those first turns in 40k with mass activation can take forever, especially once you get to 2000 point armies. Not heard of the One Page Rules version but reading through their Grimdark Future and it sounds very interesting to play!

TLDR: Long time fan of the lore/video games, recently began collecting/painting again and learning to play regular 40k in TTS - Great tutorial! Very comprehensive. Definitely subscribing! I began collecting and painting Warhammer minis just a couple of months ago for the first time since my folks bought me a box of Termagaunts around 20-something years ago after a friend had introduced me to it. Of course, because I was too young to have my own income, I never continued with the hobby. Started with the Infernus Marines kit to give me a good base of paints to work from. Got those done, then worked on an Ork Warboss in Mega Armour and extra paints (my three armies will eventually be Orks, Death Guard, and Salamanders for some Imperium goodness!). Just finished my first Myphitic Blight Hauler last night, and my first Pain Boy is already primed XD I also have Mozrog, Squighog Boyz, a set of Poxwalkers, a Brutalis Dreadnought for my Sallies (which comes with Sallies Transfers if anyone is wondering, it does not list which particular transfers come with it on most sites), and I have a Breaka Boss on Troggoth from AoS just because he looks badass and I wanted to paint him. What brought me here was wanting Ork Kommandos in my army, and then realising that grabbing the full kit with the Guardsman and all extras for gameplay for literally $2 more than the single kit of the Kommandos alone, I was in! Just needed a kickstart to learn how to play this vs 40K regular and your video was perfect. Picking up my Kill Team Box today :)

Agreed, it's nothing but a wasteful extra step of translation. And you now need two pieces of plastic to measure in stead of one piece with one-inch increment markings that you could get from any super market or book store... Which is probably why whoever thought of it got a raise in stead.

At 18:57, the model moves from one side of the barricade to the other, paying the standard (circle/2") to do so. The rules, however, state that it costs 2" to move up and down the barricade, so you'd need to measure the remaining 4" of his movement from where he started, not from where he stands on the other side of the barricade. If he used the first 2" of movement to step around the barricade, that's fine, but not if he's hopping over. This is important because if a model's base is larger than 1" (larger than 25mm), it cannot traverse a barricade with just a dash move or a move of less than 4".
@JamHammer
@JamHammer Жыл бұрын
Just reread the rules for traversing over barricades on page 73 of the core rules and you're absolutely right. Many thanks for pointing this out!

Great video, nice explanation for new players. Minor nitpick: To score an objective, the unit only has to be within circle, i.e. 2 inches of the center of the objective. If there are several units contesting the objectice, the unit, or group mof units with most APl "scores" the objective. Which makesd comms units and high APL (seargeants etc.) so strong!

The guardsman at 17:37 isn't injured; the one from the shooting example before was the sergeant vet, not this confidant vet (though they look very similar!) I have a question for the veteran guardsmen what about the medics? How would they work?
@JamHammer
@JamHammer Жыл бұрын
The medic veterans (and most other medics in the game) have two abilities that can help to heal up other operatives: The first one allows you to instantly revive another operative that would otherwise be killed without having to activate the medic. The medic and wounded operative lose 1 from their Action Point Limit for this turn, they need to be within 3 inches of each other (square symbol), they need to be Visible to each other, and neither can be within Engagement Range of an enemy operative. The saved operative gets to live with a single wound remaining, any remaining shooting dice against it get discarded, and it gets to make a free Dash action towards the medic. You can only do this once per operative per game. The second ability costs 1 Action Point, so needs to be on the medic's activation, and lets you heal up to 2D3 wounds on another operative that's within 1 inch (triangle symbol) away. You can't use this on an operative you just revived though. Hope this helps!

Hmm maybe I've been playing wrong. For turn 1 we have been picking 1 2 or 3 dice (secretly) then revealing them. The amount of dice we pick is associated with something (free pregame dash, 1 extra barricade, or change 1 operative order). Depending what you pick determines who has initiative for first turning point
@JamHammer
@JamHammer 2 жыл бұрын
Not at all! You've got it right that you pick those dice as a Scouting option then reveal them to determine first turning point initiative for Matched and Narrative games. For this video though I was just going with the simplest Open Play style that doesn't feature Scouting

So would you be able to use the kill team in a regular warhammer game or is it made just for this?
@JamHammer
@JamHammer Жыл бұрын
Yeah think they would be able to fit into a game of 40K! The Veteran Guard team can be used as a Death Korps of Krieg infantry squad (though most of the specialists will just have to count as regular troopers) and the Kommandos can be used as is in an Ork army with all their special weapons, grots & squigs allowed

How do I choose how many models to use? I don't see any points values other than equipment in Battlescribe
@JamHammer
@JamHammer 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's a bit odd that there aren't any points values when selecting teams, instead there are just rules and limitations for what models you can take to keep it balanced. E.g., the Guardsmen in the video have to take 10 Guardsmen: 1 has to be a Sergeant, the rest can be one of several options each like demolitions, medic, sniper, etc. Unfortunately they don't include this info on Battlescribe so you may need to get the roster lists with this info from elsewhere such as the Kill Team books (or you could brute force it by trying things out then correcting the roster validation errors it flags up on Battlescribe). Hope this helps!

How do you balance the lists is it based off wounds or points how do you make sure it’s not lopsided

Great question! So it's a bit odd that there aren't any points when selecting Teams like in 40k; instead there are just rules and limitations for what units you can take to keep it balanced. Great video! but I have a question: At the start of the 2nd turning point, when you activate an operative, you can change its order, BUT Does it keep that order he had from the 1st turning point until you activate it? i.e. Operative "A" has a conceal order in the 1st turning point. The turning point ends and the 2nd one begins; Is it still under the conceal order rules until you activate it? thanks in advance!
@JamHammer
@JamHammer Жыл бұрын
Thanks very much! You've got it yeah: the operative keeps the order assigned to it from the 1st turning point until it's activated again on the 2nd turning point and so on. So operative "A" still has the conceal order until you activate it on the second turning point when you can keep it or change it to engage Great question and hope this helps!

If command points are not spent in a turning point, do you get to keep them for the next?

Great question! Yeah so you gain 1 every turn and any command points you don't spend roll over to the next turn

Nice masterclass. Thank you for this. I’m thinking of getting into this game and this vid helped a lot. Got some things still not very clear hope you could kindly help me. 1) Can I kitbash my minis and still play everywhere no questions asked as long as my datasheet respect the “codex” of my kill team? I’m not a huge fan of chainswords, can I change those for a powersword in my miniatures as long as my datasheets bring the correct numbers? I know most of the community are ok with this but… could I get in trouble if I play an official tournament? 2) Is it mandatory (and if so; when?) to declare the equipment your operatives bring to the battlefield? Thank you very much again 😉
@JamHammer
@JamHammer Жыл бұрын
Thank you very much! It's a great game to get into and doesn't take anywhere near as much time or cash as full 40K so would definitely recommend it 1) Absolutely, kitbash away and most folks will probably just appreciate that you brought something unique to the table! Unfortunately you probably wouldn't be permitted to play an official tournament with them though as one of their rules is that "miniatures must accurately represent what's on your roster" 2) It is yeah, you have to be surprisingly upfront to your opponent about what your operatives are bringing and what their equipment is; they must have excellent scouts to spot that frag grenade pinned to a guardsman's lapel! You declare it after selecting your (secret) Tac Ops but before setting up barricades Hope this helps and best of luck with Kill Team 😃

@@JamHammer thank you for taking your time and give me and answer so fast and precisely. My idea is to start with intercessors and making them black templars using sword brethren bodies and parts, some primaris crusader squad parts, some special units parts and the upgrade kit for black templars. As you told me there could be issues, I think I will magnetice them to represent parts of them accuratetely if I want to select different options and this way there will not be any problem; will it be? Btw love the channel and appreciate the effort you are doing for all of us. New sub 👍🏻

@@Adrian-dt2oz No worries at all and many thanks for the sub! I've always been a big fan of the black templars and used to make my own crusader squads so think your plan sounds fantastic 😃magnetising them is a great way to change out the equipment options and can't imagine it being a problem at tournament level

You can yeah! Think it only applies to shooting though so can't use two normal parries to negate a critical strike in melee

What book are you using that has all the models and stats for the various factions? if possible, I'd like to buy one for myself.
@JamHammer
@JamHammer 2 жыл бұрын
The Compendium has stats for 19 factions, but not all of them unfortunately. If you wanted to field the Ork Kommandos from this video, for example, you would need the Octarius book instead. Or if you wanted to run a Hunter Clade, you'd need White Dwarf issue 468. Overall the stats are a bit difficult to find for Kill Team!
