Probably better than lessons from John himself, I've seen him teaching, and yeah it's cool that it exists but it doesn't go into the depth that Dave's lessons do

I wanted to learn Scar Tissue for a long time but i just started playing guitar (december) so i wanted to delay it a little. My go-to guitar-SONG-teacher is marty schwartz and i also started to watch his scar tissue video. but he started to do hybrid picking with pick and fingers and i was like "i never saw john doing that". then i remembered my favorite youtuber of all time said he wanted to do a lesson on scar tissue later in his john-series. im so happy ur doing this. all of your content is great but especially this series. it gives me as a total rookie and frusciante lover (just started loving him after starting to play the guitar, because his style is so emotional and it just touches my heart) a vision where it can go and where i want to go. please never stop and much love from germany! PS:if you ever run out of material just do song lessons like this. i really appreciate you taking the time to do a 40min+ lesson where as other youtubers barely do 10min lessons and i often feel left behind as a noob. again much love!

Yeah you can hybrid pick it of you have trouble skipping strings. Also you can do both of you're not great at muting strings. BUT. Those muted strings add a much desired depth to the song

This is, as ever, just the best lesson imaginable. You are a superb teacher. My only frustration is that having dislocated the two middle fingers of my left hand a fortnight ago, I can't dive in and start learning it. sob! They are still taped up. I love your version and I studied it for this entire week without looking at tabs. I have a vintage start, a vintage Tele and the vintage 335. The first two are fantastic, the 335 is nowhere near the quality of the other two. It feels really cheap and sounds crap unless you saturate it with gain. It's a real disappointment compared to the other two. Low quality all over.

What ever works for you. As long as you can get all the strings to ring out when playing a chord you're doing it right. If you can mute the A string while playing the E you're doing it right.

So You can use D minor and F major to solo and make licks. Could you use some D major too?

Great tutorial, but If you could show the strumming pattern more slowly, that would be perfect

hey! i was wondering how close can you get to sounds like this and also surfrock tones with this guitar but with a humbucker? i dropped my eye on a strat (not sure if i wsnt maple or rosewood) but i play mostly punkrock so a humbucker is a must for me. it would be a big great plus if it was as diferce as a sss strat

As long as you have a neck single coil you can get this tone but bridge pickup surf sounds could be difficult. You can always get the humbucker coil tapped though so you can get that single coil. :)

What would you say is the best head or combo under 300 dollars to sound like J.F. I love your videos because they can help some of us with a smaller budget.
