brilliant brilliant Dave thank you. A great lesson for us novices. I had the pleasure of meeting Rory in 1979. My brother Maurice worked for Sony/BMG and himself and Donal did the track selection for the Rory Essential CD. So I am a true Rory fan and at 59 trying to learn the basis of the blues and you are the best teacher I have found on the internet, so a huge thank you! Keep up the great work, you are truly appreciated.

Thank you Dave. I was fortunate enough to see Rory live twice. My own band is called Blueprint in tribute to him. A Million Miles Away is by far my favourite of his ( the live version, not the studio version, which he played on a Danelectro I believe). Although I’ve been playing this for years I think I’ve still learnt from this. Great that a young guy like you keeps Rory’s flame burning 👍

Taken me a long time to get round to Rory. Played guitar for ages but heard one or two Rory songs back when much younger and wasn't my thing at time, so kind of foolishly disregarded it. In comes Spotify auto play years and years later and my ears go 'ooh that's bloody good, gonna learn that, who is it....'. Making up for some lost time now and enjoying catching up on listening and learning 😁

Irish blues very nicely channeled at 43:41.I think you've nailed the crux of Rory's musical soul.Soaked in the blues,but,his own man,really.He said so himself and it was the truth. The only time I caught him live I got goosebumps from the whole atmosphere,as well as the tone and volume of his guitar.It was like pure nectar-and he was alone,electric but no band !

Just watched this one and i have to say you need to watch it yourself, after your Epiphone episode you should watch the end of this one and relive your own good advice on mistakes and apply it to yourself, i don't mean to be hollier than thou or anything but you gave great advice on mistakes and didn't pay any attention to it yourself, "take my advice i'm not using it myself" kind of thought, having said all that hope you're well and i enjoyed the Rory lesson, but just have a look if you will, it's really good advice given by yourself !

Allways having tear drops when singing that song with the crowd in the last concert of the Ballyshannon Rory Festival, in June every year. And closing any of my practice sessions with those few but so expressive chords, Dm, A, G, F. Still trying/learning to play the intro in picking with thumb, 1st and 2nd fingers of right hand. Thanks for that lesson. Love your tone: which amp and settings ?

Dave, I love this track, I’ve got a question. I was always led to believe that Rory used the black Dunlop nylon picks 1mm on and I know he use those later on BUT I was watching Irish tour 74 on Blu-ray and he looks like he’s using a cream coloured nylon Dunlop pick which if you look at the current colours looks like it’s about a .46 mil ? That is pretty light. Assuming Dunlop have always used the colours for their nylon picks various shades of white to black. It looks like a 46, it’s cream rather than white .38mm What’s your opinion? Love you man, you’re awesome
@thedavesimpson Жыл бұрын
I always thought he was using the grey .60mm. But I’m not sure.
@BazzyPredPop Жыл бұрын
@@thedavesimpson yeah I always thought he use the black 1mm . My mate, Larry Miller had one of his plectrums, and I think one of the first two original very expensive custom shop Rory strats that came to Europe. But if you watch the section where he’s going on about acoustics and fingerpicking with the dobro, you can see the plectrum is a cream colour and I was just thinking if he tends to use Dunlop nylon ones that would make it lighter than the black or grey. If you get the chance to check it out, let me know what you think. I can’t find anything on any of the forums either about his pick preferences.
