Many thanks for the tutorials ! I am 72 years old and have now played the piano for about 3 months . I have learned Green Sleeves with your very helpful video - though I am not able to break up the cords - however, I actually like the cords unbroken ! With that in mind , I am now learning this song, though once again , I will be using unbroken cords in order to keep things simple for my old fingers .

Hi Francesca. Very easy to understand the right hand notes but the left hand chords are difficult to understand. Whether they are block or broken chord. When we need to strike the chords when the particular right hand note is played

Hi Francesca. How do you find this song? A lot of sites list Mad World as a beginner level piece. I’ve been playing for a little while, but playing this properly, the way you do, seems to me to be slightly more advanced. For relative beginners the notes played in the “and” between the second and third beats are pretty tough. Having said that, I’ve got this about 80% nailed after a couple of hours.

I wouldn’t class this as ‘easy’ or beginner due to how the melody fits with the left hand and the key signature, but wouldn’t class it as intermediate either…somewhere in between!

@@BitesizePiano I’m glad we agree! HDPiano lists the melody version of this song (similar to yours) in their easy category so it was one of the first songs I tried to learn… and promptly gave up. Now I’m coming back to it after a couple of years. Nice to know I’m probably somewhere in between beginner and intermediate at this stage though.

@@stefanmladenovic5583 Thanks for asking. It's going pretty well. Lately I've found that my left hand is doing more work and my right hand is naturally going to some fairly complicated chords and shapes without really thinking about it. I do need to put more effort into playing more complex rhythms as I do have a tendency to vamp on single chords for entire bars but, as I play in a pop/rock band, I'm able to do what I need to. I'm sure I could progress much more quickly if I put in more focused practice. I do play almost every day but I like to just play along to songs with basic chords and arpeggios rather than really push myself. A year ago when I left this comment, I found Mad World a little bit tricky. Now it's the kind of song I could probably perfect by ear within 15 minutes without a tutorial so that's decent progress.

@@Saturnuria Hey that's great to hear! And you're in a band too, wow. Real nice. I'm a piano beginner myself, been playing for about three months, although I've been playing guitar for quite some time so my piano journey is a little easier since my hands are already used to abuse. I haven't even learned this song but I think I could nail it in an hour or two. Just stumbled upon your comment and thought to see how it went. Btw if you're looking to play something with a more difficult rhythm I can really recommend you try boogie woogie, it's difficult but fun

It's not aimed at beginners! Remember tutorials are meant to be paused, replayed, you need to write down notes etc
