I know everyone is pissy because they're not using sleeves, but god people, dont be such asses about your comments! On a second note, this isnt super pro tour play. Expect mistakes. Expect bad plays. Do NOT bash them for not doing the most "Efficient" thing all the time every turn. I thought magic was supposed to be fun and welcoming, not toxic and demeaning. Grow up guys.
@glassroboto
@glassroboto 5 жыл бұрын
This is the most important comment here! Usually the best play is the one that makes the game fun for you and everyone playing. If there's no money on the line, you can enjoy a drastically different type of game, especially with lots of players! Try it some time, it'll suddenly open up every single other card you never use as something you might use!

JLK Gentleman player is correct. At first I thought him and Kyle would be ringers, but he explained everything to his opponents. What they had, what he had, and what that player could do to best attack him. Keeping Magic fun and allowing the junior players to learn. Total Class Act JLK.
@FinnMcRiangabra
@FinnMcRiangabra 3 жыл бұрын
@@fireman1294 And he shows that MTG is fun to play on many levels. As long as the players have balanced expectations, any level of play can be fun. Grab some pre-constructed decks in the same format and you will have some good games. WoTC build good pre-con decks as jumping-in points. Going deep and building a scoop-or-win in 3 (or 2 or 1 turn) decks is also interesting for some, but not for most players. The important factors are 1. Don't be a dick. 2. Agree on the deck power level. 3. Have fun and play MTG.

IRosencrantz I agree with you, in my group we banter but there are also a lot of silences... The thing in this video, that I noticed thanks to Ectoblaster, is the every second gasp/kinda banter that just makes the whole thing seem fake... In the edited videos you don't notice this cause they don't let these "air bubbles" of silence happen... So yeah, while I agree that unedited videos that pass a more natural feel are better, this video just makes me cringe almost through its full length... That being said, I liked the match... It was fun, it just would be more fun with less gasps or more editing out the silence bubbles... I didn't meant for this to become a manifesto, but since I'm doing nothing... 😂

Playing a completely new deck to teach others the format is interesting. Without the video cuts, the game feels more realistic, except for the table setting. The setup is not good to play the game properly. The players cannot see what others have in front of them, which limits anticipation or interactions.

A longtime casual Magic player and also one of the best humans I know. Personally I prefer using creatures for your commander because you can do a lot of commander damage and they’re generally lower cost than planes walkers. Planes walkers are okay but usually have more downsides than a stacking low cost legendary. I run an Anafenza with Soldiers stack Commander deck and I can basically put her out there every 2 turns if she gets killed. And since most of my soldiers are 1 drops or 2 drops then I can play 5-10 in one endgame turn and bolster them and then play a card that gives all creatures with a counter on them an effect. I run it with a lot of artifacts.
@mat99rich
@mat99rich 6 жыл бұрын
They were playing with commander 2018 sets so I think they were just playing with them out of the box. Each one of the decks comes with the planeswalker as the primary commander. So it seems like they just wanted to keep it simple and not go too deep with it. Also, the decks are relatively even so it makes for a pretty fair game. (minus the fact of the 2 guys being skilled commander players and the 2 girls being completely new to commander.)

Commander is a really fun format. It’s long form usually because it’s a lot of stacking effects. If you have a lot of older MTG cards it’s a great format to play in because there’s no real standardization of cards. It’s a lot of upkeep

to her defense, I think that was why they had her only host. Josh and Kyle, two veterans, were present so she could encourage them to talk more about the cards and their synergies. I do think she did well with getting them to talk constantly

Poor Kyle. I mean, Trish did get the final blow on him...but I think she should have taken out a planeswalker instead: a mana-screwed player with no permanents versus taking out the mana-ramp or artifact-ramp engine. A third living (if crippled) player would have possibly kept Josh's deck from going off. Also, does anyone know what the end game of the fate shifter deck is? It seems like it's got control and boardwipes, but only a few easily mitigated bombs.

10:50 In Commander I'm used to pass the turn before I start to suffle my library. This saves time as normally it does not matter at all. If someone wants me to have ready library before the next person starts their turn then of course I suffle my library before passing the turn. That is very rare occurance.

My biggest gripe with this video is how f’n wide that table is. Who needs to be able to see their opponents cards?! Also how does the host know less about the game being played than the target audience?
@billable1861

Graham Warwick I’m so happy you said something about that table. The set up might be aesthetically pleasing on camera but totally stupid for playing a group game.

The target audience is beginners, so the host probably actually knows more. In any case, her role was clearly to be the MC, while they had two extremely experienced players there to provide the expertise. It makes a lot of sense to have the MC be less experienced to help a new player have someone to connect to. And the wide table may not be idea for play but it is the setup they usually have on this channel and it makes it a better viewing experience since you can have all participants facing the audience in one shot.

Game Knights and Geek & Sundry, both games won by Windgrace. And it got so much hate for being a "lackluster" lands matter deck. Sure, maybe not a powerful deck in the grand scheme but seems to be the most powerful of the set.

Nice gameplay, actually this is how a magic game should go, some fun matches with your friends. I’m fine with the mistakes, everyone makes them and you just get better with experience. It’s really cool to see these girls get into it because Commander is not the easiest format to get into and also Josh and Kyle as guests is definitely a great thing. As expected Josh won but the Commander format specifically has the benefit of being a multiplayer social format with more political interactions and turn of events, Kyle should have begged more to Trish tho, to play a bit more...
@ELFanatic
@ELFanatic 5 жыл бұрын
Trish would have benefited so much from allying with Kyle. The host should have let them do their politicking. It's also commander, politicking is the funnest part. Game kicked off with so much politicking potential, could have really showcased how commander stands out compared to standard; unfortunately, it ended with none.
