So i been playing Malians a lot and while i am not super high elo I defiantly feel like people are sleeping on Musofadi. I have had a lot of success with the Sofa/Musofari unit combo in the late game. Sofa are really tanky and they are only countered by crossbow and spearmen both of which Musofadi are decent at handling. I like this better than archers because its not countered by mangos nearly as well and there really isent a straight forward way to deal with it. Also this comp is all food and gold both of which the Malians have many bonuses to produce infinitely unlike wood. In addition both units are fast so its hard to run away from. Another thing I really like about Musofadi is that they give Malians a way to deal with armored units while in fuedal. It lets Malians deal with fast castle MAA/Knight pushes without having to age up themselves. They are super cheap and created very fast and even feudal musofadi can handle castle age armored units effectively as long as you have close to the same army value. In my opinion the real kryptonite for Malians is mass archers with supporting horseman as they really do not have a good answer to especially in feudal. Sofa in feudal do not handle archers any better than horseman and cost significantly more while taking longer to create and Javelin throwers only work in small numbers. This is easier to counter in Castle when Sofa get the +2 armor making them much more tanky from archer fire and your own archers get poison arrows and become the best archers in the game but i often struggle to deal with large archer blobs in feudal

Agree! The most fun to play for me, even more than Rus but I can't play Mali as well as with Rus. Because of Rus's Golden Gate, I can fix many of my mistakes.

@@jacobmoore2383 a lot of stuff has changed and nowadays Malians are one of the most interesting civs to play, in terms of concept (power can vary depending on the meta, but the way they are played is fun and unique)

i think two things that are holding back are the fact that a lot of players invest too much early into cow booming. a full cow boom without the Fulani grand corral is 2700 resources for what is the equivalent of 14 villagers, you can put 2 extra TCs and make 20 villagers with that same amount of resources. and also the fact that people are sleeping in the ability of musofadi warriors to kill spearmen, they cost the same amount of resources than an archer while having better DPS vs Spearmen than them. musofadi DPS vs spears is 6.52/8.69/10.86 DPS while archer DPS vs Spears is 6.13/8.58/9.81(archers have the advantage of being ranged and not melting to other archers) but still, i saw a lot of people going for Javelins + Sofa when both units cover the same role of killing ranged units. Sofas get shit on by spears and knights, Musofadi destroy those units; Musofadi get destroyed by archers and siege, but sofas can tank them perfectly and destroy those units. Still, musofadi are too damn squishys and mali is weak overall. but those two things can be improved by the players

I use stealth all the time, it's the best mechanic, super powerful if you do it right, it can be really funny too.

In a real game its rare you'd get much value from it. It's like teemo shrooms in league except you're the shroom and you can't go anywhere.

I feel like the amount of micro required just to manage your economy with vills, 2nd tc, pit mines and houses, cattle farms, etc make this civ very hard for the average player

Yes. But its a fun transition if your used to HRE and microing prelates. Its a trade off for me between good units or passive economy

I don't think they need armor, the fact that they only have light troops is what makes them unique. I think the optimal solution would be compensate the lack of armor with more interesting / powerful skills and power-ups (example: if the Musu Fadi warriors skills wouldn't increase the damage taken it would highly compensate the lack of armor - you ambush, you make MASSIVE damage for few seconds and then you run away with lighter and faster troops).

What if: A new attack command that is like "attack this area" similar to how you can manually shoot mangonels in AoE2 or do arrow volleys in other RTS. That way you can command JT and any ranged unit to attack a general area without specifying a single unit or attacking the units closest to them. It still requires a bit of macro but is much more doable.

I appreciate your video-guides (mainly because they are the only once available with.... somewhat sufficient quality). But this video is not effective, as you can’t see the villager count per resources, and everything is built around that information in a build order. Please improve that. Also the information transmitted could be done in half of the time if you would leave out the unnecessary side notes that are irrelevant to a build order guide. Keep the good work going! Cheers

Season 3 seems to be the Season of Trading. Well, based on the three games I've seen so far where the Malians, Ottomans, and the Mongols use it. Aussie Drongo casted all of them.
