Such a sweet tune, love it, singer told me: go learn this: came here: sweet! -- A little tip for people who strum a minor seven chord and then cringe thinking, oh my gosh, that can't be right (yet they are fingering it correctly) - strum all the strings almost perfectly simultaneously --- it's important to to hear all the intervals, together, instantly... if you sort of stroke down (arppegiate) it takes on an extremely different feel than what is presented here~ not that a minor seventh arpeggio doesn't sound cool, it does but it is more jazzy or fusion and this is a m7 chord "chimed" out in a soulful motown pop kinda way, so hit it -- all notes at once (or as quick as u can)

I thought the pre-chorus was Cm7 / Ab7 / Eb7 / Ab7......the third chord having the major third in it. This being the point in the song where we're going from minor to major. At least in Marvin's version.

I can't explain this here, but your formula is incorrect. C and E are not in the key of Gb. Gb has 6 flat notes including Cb. Besides that, a chord arrangement of a song is not limited to the chords in the key.
