If you dont use lunar, there is another mod called essential. It adds the bedrock friends system to java but includes things with a way to veiw screenshots in game and share them and a direct friend messaging system

My friend hosts a server locally on his computer. shit went insane in 2020. never mattered who was on, you could just join and play. We had separate bases, and we had massive farms. I miss the high-school quarantine days sometimes.

yes that's true. this feature is simply a convenience no-setup type mod, which is helpful for a lot of people who don't wanna tinker with server stuff like commands, setup, port-forwarding, ect. Both are good and free options. having options are good imo😅

In vanilla java edition minecraft, you have to use a server or realm to play multiplayer (Or LAN if you're on the same network) so you are using one of those
