Great lesson! I wanted to play that lick like that for so long. I was doing it in 3rd position because I could not bend until recently. This is much more bluesy and the way that Sugar Blue sounded. I actually heard Sugar Blue play that live a number of times over the years.

I'm sure someone has pointed this out to you but the key signature you have up is A major. A natural Minor has no sharps or flats.

I’m using a Special 20 Hohner. I cannot get the required C note (the 3 hole draw) without an intense bend. It doesn’t sound right.

It's in the key of A minor and it is played on a D harmonica. Don't worry - your ear "muscle" will get stronger with practice. I certainly know mine did :-)

I always have a problem keeping track of the beat and rhythm, do you count out loud in your mind or more by feel? Also what are some ways that I can work I this?

I would practice counting out loud in your mind. Eventually it will become subconscious :-)

I thought it's ok I won't return it. still works fine almost. Then two weeks in I find out the 2 being a dud on the draw is wayyy more of a problem than I thought. I'm probably going cave and get a new D just to play this song while driving.. God damb Horner to hell im never buying another piece from them.

Is it in A minor, or just second position A? I thought C would give you an A minor

Norman Kirchner second position on a d harp gives you the notes of A minor and A major, depending on the notes you play. On a C harp 1st position, if you playing the major scale, but start on the A note (3whole bend or 6 draw), thats A minor also. its the natural minor, 4th position if you're talking harmonica

Norman Kirchner no prob. there this site called "www.angelfire.com/tx/myquill/Harpscript.html " which is a scale generator for harmonica. Easy to learn to use, Very useful for seeing which scales are available, the relationship betwen notes and all the modes if you understand them. Happy Harpin'

I think the key to getting A minor is the half step bend on hole 3 draw. This bends the C# down to C. In a recent video, Tomlin recommends an App, ‘insTuner' - this helps check the accuracy of your bends (highly recommended).

Hi Norman, positions are not major or minor. The notes you choose to play in a specific position are Major or Minor. So for example, I can play A major or A minor on a D harmonica but I can also play A major or A minor on an A harmonic in 1st position. Hope that helps - positions are mystical :-)
