Good explaining!! Only quibble is it's really hard to see what's going on so zoomed out.

Awesome video! Really need more of these smaller battles to do a good job of explaining the game process and strategy. Highlighting the key terrain and objectives.

Thank you for putting this together. I just ordered Nafziger's "Lutzen and Bautzen" (completing my set on 1813) and think that I'll dip my toe into operational Napoleonics with "Napoleon's Resurgence" from OSG.

This game looks fun and fairly easy to learn and play. I ordered the Fismes intro game. Hoping to play some soon. OSG is currently having a really nice sale so I may pick up a big box.

Yeah. Probably same. I understand they're not including cards in all of the game box anymore. True?

Very good intro. Bonus points for a relaxed style of explanation. But, yes, it would be a LOT better if explained on a Vassal module screen! This zoomed out, you get no sense of the geography, the objectives, etc. Very tidy little maps for this battle, at least. What percentage of the Library's battles are small(er) vs. the more famous grand tilts that I'm sure must be in the packages at some stage? More bonus points for the absence of tweezers. All you need are your fingers, and that's what they're for, right? :)

First, thanks for producing a intro video. It might of been better to start with using the Introductory game "The Battle of Talavera" for this and the first scenario from it. I commend you for producing this video but most folks are going to start with the $22.50 starter game not the close to $ 100 games. Close ups of the map to clearly show supply, ZOC and command/control using a pencil or pointer might help to make it clear to newbies or just think KISS (Keep IT Simple for Stupid). Movement costs through each terrain and would be nice to show as well. You might also want to explain what/why the cards are used instead of the other system. What are the pros/cons of card use and why you would not. Something to think about the next time your fine folks make a intro to play video. I would suggest making a separate videos on combat and on leadership/command/control, going over each type and the modifiers that come into play as 30 mins is not enough time to explain what needs to be gone over to newbies on this game. But thanks for doing this, much better then what has been out there. I would suggest doing separate videos on a)movement and supply, b) ZOC and leadership, c) combat in layers (just infantry then cav, then cannon so players can master each layer of the game then move on). Much like squad leader and other games had teaching scenarios to teach each aspect of the game. Thanks for this video as it at least helps.

I agree with Orin's suggestions -- you should also note Jeff Capuano's series, "La Bataille Considered," where he demonstrates the rules and principles step-by-step, with closeup shots, and situations setup to illustrate the point. Given that TLNB's mechanics are quite a bit simpler than LaBat's, this should be a pretty straightforward affair. Keep the terrain uncluttered, (unless you're illustrating terrain effects) and stay away from things like cards (initially) and weak points like the unit setup spreadsheets in Resurgence. Talk about scale and time-frames and have at least one sequence that emphasizes how TLNB portrays battlefield management (take a chunk of Lutzen or Konigswartha) and how command and control works within a historical context. Going through the mechanics in detail is great, but at least point to another video or set of videos that shows all the chrome and sizzle (and that's what will sell your $109 game. :) ).

There’s always someone....these guys do these videos for our benefit completely out of joy and appreciation for the the games. So instead of critiquing and suggesting further work from them, why don’t you break out your camera and show us all how it’s done? If you are not prepared to do that, then just accept what others make an effort to produce for our benefit and enjoyment, and keep your “suggestions” to yourself. Don’t like it - don’t watch it.

Thanks for doing this Chris! Spread the TLNB gospel! One large request - would love to see a small map battle like this one between you and one of the other TNG folks from this camera angle (speeding up the movement scenes as necessary) with some explanation about what you're doing within the game rules. A lot to ask, but would show a lot about how the games are played.

One more thing Chris....for the cards, do you guys house rule having to play a card each turn? I've found I like to have the ability to decide if I want to lose a VP (or 2 or 3) or just discard a card with no effect or hang on to all my current cards (but unable to draw a new card).
@kzucker1000
@kzucker1000 5 жыл бұрын
@@Jerry_Woodfield If you make it too easy on yourself with such a house rule, then nothing bad might happen. With the requirement to play a card, you may end up playing a card you do not wish to play. That's more in line with history. You cannot micro-manage fate! Other than that, I encourage you to use any House Rule that enhances your enjoyment of the game.

8:35 Is a unit allowed to move into a EZOC and continue moving as you did here? I thought a unit had to stop once entering a EZOC. I would've like to see rolling for command explained more throughly, especially with officers and the various rolling-moving options.

I'm learning with La Souffel in the boxed game Napoleon's Last Gamble. I've read the rules twice and setup to just play, looking up rules as needed. This video helps with getting it right. The rules really are not that hard...for me it's learning a whole different method of warfare...having only played WW2 and modern warfare games.
