How To Play Professional Sports In The Air Force

In this video I will be discussing all of the different Air Force Sports programs (basketball, flag footbal, softball, bowling, volleyball, soccer, wrestling and more). I will discuss the different level of team you can play on. Starting with intramural teams, base teams, Air Force teams and World Class Athletes. I discuss how to apply for the Air Force sports teams, and what happens once you make the team.
Keep in mind this isn’t just for Air Force sports, this is good to know for other military members. Being in the military, you can play sports a high level against other military branches. Kevin Bradshaw was HS Teammates with Cedric "Mad" Maxwell (Rockets). He had a rough time after HS Graduation but eventually joined the Navy after leaving 2 Division Programs (I actually think USIU lost it's funding). He was leading the NCAA in scoring. He joined the Navy and was on the Top level Team and I guess they played against West Point because David Robinson remembered him and commented "WHY is this guy down here? He should be on a Higher Level". The documentary about Bradshaw's Life, Robinson made that statement. He finally played Pro in Israel for many years and is now an Educator in Southern California.

The Air Force has swimmers that represent as world class athletes. It’s extremely competitive and challenging, but possible. Volleyball would probably a lot easier to play via the Air Force.

You first have to join. Once you join you’ll be able to apply to tryout for a sport with the link in the video. Once you apply, if you get accepted you gotta show up and show out to get picked up. If you get picked up, you’ll be training and playing for the season length. I hope that helps.

Actual football is only played at the academy levels. I believe flag football only goes up to base level. I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure.

You have to complete your training. Then you have to get approval from your commander. Overall it can take about a year or a little longer before you can play on the Air Force sports team. For intramural and base level, you can play after basic, if your tech school has base sports teams.

That’s dope. One thing to consider, the Air Force doesn’t have a football team. We have flag football, but not actual football. Unless you were to play for the Air Force academy.

Probably not. The Air Force has a program called LEAD, where you can be selected to go to the academy, but it’s not likely. You cannot be over the age of 22, so your window is real small when getting selected.

Yep. You would actually get paid more on the Air Force team, because you’d be TDY (temporary duty) all the time. On TDY’s you get paid per diem for whatever location you’re at on top of your original check.

They won’t let you play on any team that travels while in tech school. You can play on the base team or intramural’s, but you can’t play on a that leaves the local area. As far as pay, you get paid the same as everyone else. The only difference is if you’re on a traveling team, you’ll receive travel pay

Ohhhhh. I see what you’re saying. Hmmm, I know that just because the sport isn’t on the list, doesn’t mean you couldn’t play. Let’s say you were extremely good, and could compete at a high level, you may be able to request that the Air Force lets you play for a team if it reflects good for the Air Force. Kind of like when the Air Force lets members go on shows like American idol or something, it would be similar to that. As far as adding teams to the Air Force sports teams, that’s something I’m not familiar with. I would assume you would first have to have enough members for a team, a coach and a reason the Air Force should fund the team. But I really don’t know. I hope his helps.

For the intramural sports and base sports, there’s definitely not an age limit. I’m not sure if there’s any age limits on the Air Force sports programs. That would be something you could probably find on the website I mentioned in this video. I hope that helps.

Yea. I used to train when I first joined. I did it on my own time. One of best friends fought professionally for MMA. He just did it on his own time. If you wanna fight and represent the Air Force, we have armed forces sports teams and boxing is one of them. If you’re good enough, you can compete on those teams.

The Air Force can help you play competitively and semi professionally if you can make it that far, but actually playing pro is gonna be tough. Whether you play for the Air Force or not.
