How to play PS1 & PS2 games on a non backwards compatible PlayStation 3 (PS3)

One of the most common questions we get asked is .....
Can you play PS1 & PS2 games on a non backwards compatible PlayStation 3 console?
Yes you can, you will need to have custome firmware running on your PS3 console and a program called “Multiman”.
You can download this easily by searching on Google for “Multiman”, download the latest version.
The Slim PS3 in the video is running v4.86 Ferrox and Cobra custom firmware and the Multiman is version v4.85.01.

@@dqminic I believe he’s mentioning how all ps3 models can read ps1 games and a few can read PS2 titles. The launch release PS3 model was fully backwards compatible for the PS2 until the later models like slim and super slim.

@@firdaus4103 It depends on the game, and the games disk for its respective console. I assume PS1 games would download faster than PS2 games, and PS2 games would download faster than PS3 games. In some cases you may have a big game like Final Fantasy X on the PS2 that would take longer to download compared to a PS3 game like Wipeout HD (I actually don't know how big they are. This is just an assumption). I downloaded SSX and that took a little more than an hour, so imagine bigger PS2 & PS3 games. Hope that helps.

Does it work with PS2 games that have compatibility issues with partial emulation backward compatible PS3s? _Area 51_ crashes, and others like _Crazy Taxi_ and _Burnout 2_ have graphical glitches.

I was able to install TR Angel of Darkness with no issues. HP Order of Phoenix crashed at 3%. It could very well be the disc. Some scratches on it.

It should just be a additional disk drive that tells your dad it’s a PlayStation one games but changes it’s processing power to the PS2 game So it doesn’t look that much blocking well block you what I mean or maybe just a PlayStation 3 game that just shows the PlayStation 2 logo so finally you can play Lego racers two :D

All ps3 systems will play ps 1 games all of them it's the PS2 games that will not play on all ps3 systems only the fat model with 4 ports

@@firdaus4103 yes it is! That's the cause? Recently I found out that have to install 2 pkgs, one to kind of patch the iso and the other one to load it "Ps2 placeholder... " I think is the name, but the way you did it is more particle and storage friendly.

This method only works for ps1 games if your console isn't a fat ps3 ps2 backwards compatible console

PS2 Games will only work in a Backwards compatible Original console or a CFW PS3. If you own a 60GB console and it is no longer reading PS2 games, then you have a faulty laser and need to replace the laser in the Blu Ray drive.

Guys he must have hen that's what I use and multiman and ps2 iso launcher rebug edition he downloads the game to a USB then inserts the USB to ps3 then he transfers the game from USB to ps2 iso icon through devhdd0 then he turns multiman mode on after that he encrypts the game and he places it into the ps21000 folder then he goes to the emulator and ready

Your console needs to be running Custom Firnware, if your console is running custom firmware, then download Multiman by Googling it. Then simply install it as a PKG file.
