I still have my copy. I haven't played it in decades. The only thing I can recall from playing it was that it was fun and my preferred tactic was to climb to the maximum ceiling for the Spad XIII and dive on the target. Loved the Spad. Second favorite was the SE5a.

There's a beautifully restored Spad XIII at the Smithsonian. You're right, its a fun game, only wish it had a Fokker Eindecker in the rules!

this looks painful solo and on Vassel but I bet in the 70s with a friend where there was nothing else easily available on the topic and no computers it must have been great

You are so right. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't nearly as cool as it was when I was 13 years old. You played any of the other WWI Air War games out there?

I'm going to climb 225 m. It's fairly typical how these old games were never playtested properly and put out with such typos.

I once talked to one of the developers from that era, and when I asked about what playtesting was like, he just chuckled.;-)

I know it's not a major element of the story, but the Canadian pilot that Richthofen was chasing was named Wop May, not Reid.

Thanks for the correction, I think that I read May's name wrong and went with his middle name as his last name. Sadly, I missed out on a great name like "Wop". ;-)

I would like to at least hear your explanation of the "campaign game". I have been reading those rules and would like to play it at some point. I think some of the mechanics need a better explanation. I've had the game since 1972.

Yeah I hear ya. I glanced through the mechanics while I was making the video, and had to cut them out to keep the video to a feasible size. I'll play around with them, and one of these days try to get a RW part II up.
