Learn how to play Roam from Red Raven Games. Roam is designed and illustrated by Ryan Laukat.
In Roam, you and up to three friends compete to find lost adventurers. The game includes more than fifty unique, tarot-sized adventurer cards, which feature characters from Near and Far, Above and Below, and Islebound. The opposite side of each card depicts a landscape split into six squares, and two rows of three of these cards are placed in the center of the playing area to make the board.

Played it over the weekend and loved it but I don't see anywhere in the rule book for hardcore mode

Tr1pleOseveN Glad you enjoyed it! It’s possible the Hardcore Mode was removed from the final version. If you want to give it a try, here’s the gist: You may not place on the map unless every cube of your shape can be placed. You cannot skip squares that contain another player’s cubes. If you cannot place any cubes on your turn, you may flip one of your character cards but place no cubes. If it’s not in the rule book, maybe it was left out after more development. Anyway, give it a try and let me know what you think!

The Lighten Up Initiative I like both modes but the hardcore mode requires more thinking since your move are more critical which I like

trying to cover circled gold points by square cubes. Thematically they would represent the parts of the landscape that character searched. Hardcore mode should be the only mode, the softcore is not thematic. Artwork is cute. But gameplay is soo dry and abstract.

At 2:00 you may want to add an annotation - because the cubes are limited, but the coins are not (per the final rulebook). 🙂
