Wow how timely is this. Our band is playing a pretty big gig tomorrow night (big for us) and I've been going through my accompaniment progressions ahead of it. Two songs Nate knows from me Californiacation and Down by the River are in the line up. And wouldn't you know it Simple Man is one of our closers. That’s so awesome!! Random piece of unsolicited advice-if the guitar player is already doing the arpeggio, just holding it down with blocked chords will probably be a better complement to that then also doing an arpeggio. Good luck with the show!!

​ @PianowithNate ​ the advice as the guitar player did do the arpeggio part - we have a really great guitarist and given my current keyboard skills I'm smart enough to know when to hang back and provide accompaniment. However I did practice the arpeggio piece well enough to toggle between keyboard and guitar which gave it a nice feel. As my confidence grows we will stretch that out. As you indicated a couple times in your videos "Accompiment means just that - accompany - we all can't be out front all the time."

Hi Emily, I'm glad you like my arrangement! Transcribing this to sheet music would take my attention away from making other tutorials, but you may be able to google for sheet music of similar arrangements. I'd encourage you to try this using the chord based approach! You just need to learn the 3 chords that I teach in the first part of the video. Then learn the arpeggio pattern I illustrate at 5:40. Once you know the pattern, you simple apply it to each of the 3 chords. It may be easier than you think!

Thanks for this, Nate! I was listening to this and my ear was like - there is something missing from the arpeggio! It was driving me crazy. I figured out that it’s from the Shinedown acoustic version, where he hits a high G (?) at the end of the A minor chord. I think 😂

Yes! I totally meant to mention that…this isn’t a note for note reproduction of the guitar arpeggios since doing that is very tricky on piano. But if that high G is important to your ear you should definitely throw it in. Crossing left hand over to do it is one option
