From The Publisher: New version of Skyjo which adds Action Cards and Joker Cards.
In Skyjo, each player 12 cards in a 3x4 pattern, two of them face up, all others hidden. On your turn you can take the top card from the discard or draw pile. You can exchange one card (hidden or open) from your display with it or discard the drawn card to turn one card face up. The round ends when one player has only open cards. All cards will be revealed, and the points added for each player (Cards are ranked from -2 to 12). The game ends when one player reaches 100 points or more. Whoever has the lowest score wins.
The trick is: Whenever one column of 3 cards all have the same value, the whole column is dicarded, so if you are feeling lucky, you can try to collect sets of high cards (which everyone else will likely discard, so you can take them from the discard pile).
Skyjo Action adds (as the name suggests) Action Cards, which allow for special moves: Exchange cards in your tableu, Exchange cards between players, Steal an action card, Take two turns in a row etc. You get an action card whenever you put or reveal a Joker in your tableau, or you can take an Action Card instead of a normal move. Jokers allow for easier set collection and make very valuable sets in themselves (-10 or -15 points).
As a new rule, rows of identical cards are now also discarded.

Thank you for this video! The rules that came with the game were poorly written. This was extremely helpful 👍🏼 I do have one question regarding the "Defense" cards. Do they automatically activate when your attacked? Or can you choose not to use them? When we played through, we wondered why someone would attack another player if they had a Defense card. As we understood it, the action cards are not kept hidden, but rather set next to a players grid for all to see.

At 2:35 you say that at the beginning of new rounds you won’t be flipping over two cards. I think that is incorrect. The rules say, “At the beginning of a round, each player lays out his twelve playing cards face-down…then each player turns over any two cards.” The rules about who goes first don’t negate the rule about turning over two cards each round.

I have a question about the actioncard. Do I show my opponent my actioncard hand or not? Because it make less sence to use the an attack actioncard if I know that my oppnonent has a shieldcard. Can you give me some advice there pls.

It seems that the action cards are NOT hidden. It's somewhat annoying, but I wouldn't say that it doesn't make sense. It's just another thing you need to take into account in your overall strategy.

With the star cards being “wild cards”, can they be negatives? So if you have in a row: -1, star, -1 can the star be a -2? Or can it only become 0-12?

The wild cards can be of any value, but I think it's only when there is a column (with cards of the same value) that you want to discard. You can't just say "instead of being worth 0 they are all worth -2" when they are separated (i.e. not a column or row).

My family and I have been obsessed with SkyJo so I was excited by SkyJo action but these new action cards are a disappointment. Too hard to teach people and too hard to remember all the nuanced rules. You have to make it simple and easy to follow and SkyJo action is not. I appreciate the creator of this video saying that you can adjust the game to have no action cards and just the star cards, we might just play that way. Also, the original game only lets you remove vertical rows, but it’s an odd concept to let that this one lets you do horizontal and vertical rows. Disappointed in the game makers who overcomplicated a great original game.
