1) "play"? this is a walkthrough on buying crypto. There is no GAME here. Even the "game play" trailer that dropped a few days ago isnt in game play. This project is an elaborate crypto sales push, it's not a game, and I seriously doubt it's going to be. Your vid is professional, this project is sketchy. 2) This process seems ridiculously complicated. Why can't a "player" just buy ships with a CC? Or paypal? I put in 100.00 for sol, convert it to something else, pay fees, then buy a ship, I no longer 100.00 to use for the jpeg on offer. Then, I have to buy food, repair stuff, ammo and fuel? it's a cash sink. A cash sink for an elaborate MUD. 3) Why NFTs? I get you own the NFT. I get it's portable, blah blah blah. What happens to that NFT if this game never launches? I own a picture of a ship, or ammo/fuel/food/repair stuff that I can't use anywhere else and will therefore have no value to anyone else to sell. I bought a ship in Star Citizen when I backed that in 2013. Should that game collapse under its own bloated weight and never launch, that ship does me no good, and is therefore no different than an NFT based ship.

Yeah totally agree. Update on Star Citizen: I also pledged in 2013 knowing exactly who and what Chris Roberts has done in the past. If you didnt pay attention to the games dev progress since, now would be a good time for you to check out the alpha, its interesting enough now. I only began to check back in on star citizen last year. Although there is clearly a product there, a lot more is needed to deliver. On that note, who is directing star atlas? Anyone with actual game dev credentials?
@yhossarian
@yhossarian 2 жыл бұрын
@@MotherNature26 Same here, after backing, I'd check periodically on progress, then sort of forgot about it until last year. I jumped back in during 3.14. There is a lot left to do, and what exists can be buggy, but it's playable and a ton of fun so far. 2022 will hopefully bring a lot of what we are looking for.

I'm a sucker for space games. Been having a blast in the Star Citizen alpha. I was hoping for another space game here, but there are scant details. I hope it is more than an elaborate NFT scheme. I'll check back in a few years. With no info on the game development, or even what the game will be about, I don't see much chance of anything concrete before then.

Good evening. I have enjoyed your videos and hope to watch a great deal more. I was wondering are you able to help, I have just paid approx 900 Atlas, this ship was called Calico Guardian, I know the number of Atlas seem very low but on the left hand side of the screen it gives you ( I am assuming ) the people who are selling this ship and it ranged from 77000 to 900 Atlas which seemed very strange, however, i gave it a go as I was only losing $40 on the right hand side it gives you the buy now option which it highlighted and bought it, however, nothing has appeared in my inventory and I am guessing it will not, are you to explain what this all means, I have bought two xx small ships but would like to expand as I see this getting much bigger as the year goes and want to be in early. I have also sent these two ships out got 1 Atlas per ship per day, is there anywhere that can show me what rewards I can get with each ship etc, I hope this all makes sense?

Ok lets see how the allure of making money through some ethereal process influences the reaction to this comment: What part of any of this "game" looked fun from this video? Loading up what was essentially a card/profile of a ship with food, ammo and fuel and sending it "out". What is is doing while it is "out" anyway? Did you even choose what its doing? And suggesting that $110 is worth it to be a part of essentially that experience? I can go find a game that is more extensive for $5 that would be easily more entertaining. Although why should I be surprised when there was cow clicker... The second thing I found off was the fake enthusiasm/excitement for buying a ship and getting "into" the game. Am I supposed to believe that you really think that was exciting. At no point did you convince me that you genuinely felt that way. So why would you fake that positive emotion? And now, I bet that this comment will just be down voted to remove it from the comments so people can't read this AND/OR a bunch of people will rush in to attempt to discredit the questions asked in this post. Why? Perhaps maybe you are trying to create positive hype for you ethereal investments and criticism and skeptical lines of thinking are antithetical to that goal.
@DAOcaster
@DAOcaster 2 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I do appreciate this. Mainly, what you see is a pre-alpha for a AAA-game that is currently being developed. It's anticipated to take 3 years to complete, but these are the first parts available to us. I am excited for two reasons. Well I guess, firstly, I'm sorry I came across as fake. I fucking hate when ✨content creators✨ just hype projects for no reason. I've been following this project for awhile and I'm really proud of the team for building this. Being that the blockchain is still an emerging technology, it's really difficult to build even this. I am mostly excited that the ships I just purchased can be "staked" or locked and able to make money, and that I'll actually be able to fly this ships in 3-5 years. Also... I love space games. That being said, I don't expect this to change your mind about my enthusiasm. I'm here to get people excited about a game that I believe is going to be really popular in 3 years. If I have to ramp that up a bit for the video, so be it. I really will think about this as feedback though, thanks.
@MotherNature26
@MotherNature26 2 жыл бұрын
@@DAOcaster First, I do want to say, that your presentation of how to actually go through the levels of transaction in order to buy a ship was good. You have a base understanding of how to put together a good tutorial video. The flip side of that is, you may be making it very easy for people to lose money they didn't to lose. Again, don't get me wrong, I have no problem with wanting to back a project that that might seem like a hope and a dream. I personally backed Star Citizen in 2013 when the was not yet a game, so I am not a skeptic when it comes to funding through different methods. It also appears that using block chain instead of crowd funding is another valid way of raising money for a project. Its how Star Atlas came to be that ends up raising those red flags in the back of my mind. I searched for information on this project and watched Paul Barron's interview with Michael Wagner the Co-founder. If you watch that 40 minute interview which is on youtube, Michael Wagner could not stop talking about block chain, as if it was the block chain itself that was going to program the game, and I'm exaggerating only slightly. He did not talk much about what he actually envisioned for the game, nor why gaming was important to him or even why this particular genre was interesting. By all outward appearances he is not interested in the game itself, and that perhaps he just wants to create value on a block chain platform that he got in on early enough. Now if you contrast the Star Atlas trailer or the 40 minute interview to the 11 minute pitch that the creator of Star Citizen, Chris Roberts, put out in 2012 there are a couple of big differences. Passion and experience. He explains what the space sim genre means to him, he demonstrates it with his past achievements, and you can visibly see the excitement the idea of having a game space like Star Citizen means to him. Then he lays out in general detail what kind of gameplay he envisions, and details on mechanics he wants to incorporate to make that experience realistic. Now both Star Citizen computer imagery at that time in 2012 and Star Atlas trailer imagery were both loose renderings of the idea of what the game would end up looking like but the vision is clear in the case of Star Citizen. Now both projects at their start clearly look like super high risk investments but one of them clearly shows the passion of its creator while the other is not. In other words, Chris Roberts looks invested in his own vision, and all Michael Wagner could do was talk about NFTs and what they could do. Given all the controversy around Star Citizen, and the progress it has made up to 2020, the cynic in me looks at all of this and says maybe Michael Wagner is attempting to piggy back on that project's controversy and the fact that it is likely now to succeed to sell the same kind of hope and aspiration as an NFT investment scheme. If Wagner picks the space simulator genre as the basis of his NFT game he can deflect criticism of his own creation if it starts smelling foul in year or two by citing Star Citizen's successes to date in the face of adversity all the while collecting people's real dollars for two to three years. It is interesting to me that this project, which would be a direct competitor to Star Citizen, gets announced in 2021 once Star Citizen really demonstrated that is has the resources to succeed. And given the scope and depth of gameplay that the alpha version of Star Citizen can already deliver, who would want to attempt to compete with that in the space sim genre unless they had as much passion as Roberts about the genre? Does the Star Atlas project pass a smell test? I would say no given the information I've seen so far, but maybe I am not looking hard enough. A projected release date in 3 years does not line up with the expected development time that it would need to make Star Atlas the game it says it will be. CIG the studio that Roberts was able to put together for creating Star Citizen has ~700 employees working on it now and it might get to a releasable state in 4 years. They have already had 10 years of development process churn and chop to hone their processes and tool sets. They are still learning, and trying to develop network technology that doesn't quite exist in order to deliver the server meshed experience laid out in Robert's ultimate vision. How big is the studio creating Star Atlas? What is that studio's name? Who are the lead programmers and project managers? What is the experience level of the Star Atlas team? Can we even see the team working on it?

DUDE! Those "gas fees" are really expensive! $7ish in hidden fees buying supplies and then another $5ish in hidden fees in buying and deploying the ship. For basic entry I feel pretty overwhelmed by the true buy in to do what I've seen you do. If its going to be like that on resupplies I don't think my end review of this game is going to be very good at all.

Check your video you paid a sol tax of .025 at 5:58 and again at 9:27 Fuel tax .025 Sol and it will happen again and again every time you need to buy something classed as an "nft". .025 Sol as of last night was $2.20 give or take and today it's nearly $3 give or take. The nature of having to interact with game assets as nfts means all normal gamers will baulk at the fees and other personal information hurdles they will not want to go through to play a game. You will never be able to recoup expenses because every time you have to rebuy supplies your getting stabbed in the eyes for another $10 to $20 in Sol taxes depending on the market values that day.

@@stoggyreturns It's kind of part of the ponzi scheme the developers are running. Have the individual convert their currency at least once, then allow them to go ham on the game market with that mental disconnect of exactly what they are spending. In this case, we converted twice and throw in variable market values. At this point, only a very small percentage of humans are going to know exactly what they are spending at any point and those people will be the ones that get rewarded the most out of the system while everyone else plays the luck of the draw or gets taken advantage of. It is a good gig, until people figure it out. But I am cynical here. Rubes have been paying $5+ for skins and items for a decade now.

@@DAOcaster What does happen to NFTs when, let's say, an EMP strikes in? All data being deleted... I guess the NFTs are gone as well like all crypto, all your FIAT normal bank account holdings, everything digital would be lost right? No matter there once was a coded NFT or not right? And in fact, even if you own tons of NFTs but you do not own a mobile phone, computer or any device with a screen to watch or show them on, you maybe "have" them but still have no real use to them. Besides, for very long years now, people/players are annoyed as fuck when it comes to pay-to-win games where you can spend money on better equipment or just cosmetical stuff like uniforms or avatars... now, with this NFT "tech" this is put to another level... it is said that you now can earn money with it, rather then spending money on such stuff but with the pay-to-win games, you can still play without paying something. But the NFTs now or all these metaverse games for instance you need to invest to be part of the "game" so saying you can easily earn money with NFTs is or can be a just a very big lure or scam to make people invest money in digital stuff now, that before they dismissed as "pay-to-win or just cosmetic shit". It is mentioned all the fucking time... buy land, buy ships, buy axies... stake this, stake that, breed this and so on... all these so called games are completely just about money, money money... no game, the game is just a fassade for a simple money making machine by trading currencies and staking them. And yes, some super stars or already rich crypto people are buying and selling some NFTs for big amounts of money and thus, a lot of "normal people" (simply not rich people so to say) will do so as well, hoping in making the big millions too but then... I guess... nobody will be there to buy these NFTs from the normal people simply because... they are unknown... rich/famous people buy from other rich/famous people or companies or companies buy from one artist but not from thousands of normal people simply because.... when a hand full of people earn tons of money, this money must be accumulated somewhere else... at the normal people who then sit on their "investments" into some digital pictures. In fact simple capitalism - a lot must pay so that some few can profit. By the way, blockchain in general is a good idea but a waste, in my opinion, when being used for NFTs and maybe not even the metaverse thingies. Because something as the metaverse already exists since 2003 called "Second Life". It just lacked some FIAT to ingame money blockchain to keep the ingame price stable. Something that is also not the case in metaverse games right now, as far as I tested them. Just watch at some of these digital "land" prices.... Maybe in 30+ years all this stuff will be interesting when VR is so realistic that we can really touch, feel, taste and so on even digital things. But for now, all this so called play2earn games are nothing but a scam, a disguise for an even more brutal pay2win thing - > trading with cryptos, i.e. NFTs. It is no game anymore, it is brutal capitalism and simple trading and what made games funny, which are based on this, always was, it was not real, it was only digital "ressources and money" you could do whatever you want to with and even with pay2win games you could still go in without spending a dollar. But with play2earn disguised pay2win this time is over for now because almost every meta "game" I checked so far was nothing but a crypto NFT trading website with mostly just a simple game in front... and for real, when it comes to star atlas for instance we have seen nothing so far, just some nice rendered video clips and nice pictures, that's it... so the game you wait for will take several years from now on I guess and all this time you will just have pushed your money into this instead of, what I guess you could do even better, do day trading in a real crypto market or so with much bigger profits while spending several thousands of dollar.

If you wouldn't mind, I'd like to compile a response to this. I really respect the points in this comment. I think you bring up the way things ought to be, and I agree in that sense. But like it or not, these games are here to stay and they are making a huge impact in the art and gaming industry. It honestly doesn't matter it some people don't like it. Technological advancement doesn't stop for them. But I encourage you to look into Eve Online and Star Citizen, where people are playing similar games but without the blockchain. What you see now is not the game. It is fundraising to make their game. The real, cheap-to-start game won't come for 3-5 years. Most P2E games today are utter bullshit to Westerners but are changing the lives of citizens of some countries where the currencies aren't as valuable. I don't disagree with you, I just don't think it will stop.
@richardpagel6959
@richardpagel6959 2 жыл бұрын
@@DAOcaster Thanks for your answer! Yes I get this fundraising part of it for sure and also agree that it probably will take several years for most metaverse games, being created now, last year or so, to get into the final, playable version that will be available to all players, so also player who are not willing or capable of investing several thousand dollars. And ok, maybe these final, playable, versions will be much cheaper for the players so that land just costs some dollar, maybe 10$ and not like now, in several metaverse games, 100$ or even 1000$ minimum up to a level of several hundreds of thousands or even millions. But that aspect... let's say you invest 10.000$ in such a game now. No matter if star atlas, sandbox, axie infinity, decentraland, Ertha or whatsoever, there are dozens of start-ups coming up with such stuff right now... When the final game comes out and land will be cheaper so that the average player can also get into the game would mean that land that once cost me 1000$ for example will than be worth 10$? Or let us say all land is already sold out when the game launches, what happens then? Can new player not participate or do they have to buy land from existing players? For what price? The new adopted cheaper price or the initial price the player paid? Not even speaking about rising land prices due to the value next to them, on them and so on. Or will new players, when all land is already sold or the last empty bits available still cost 1000$ minimum or so because of the value next to it, will they be able to... let's say being workers in build factories by other players? Or go into military or whatsoever... will they have options to get into the games without investing any money at all and also earn something by lending their character (and thus your own GPU / graphic card usage) to other players while being online and thus also create, of course a small, amount of ingame (and thus real) money, i.e. NFTs? And by the way, speaking of citizens of some countries (Ghana for axie infinity is a place I heard/read), how can they even afford such prices when me as a European, German, citizen cannot do so? Yes I know there are players out there in Ghana, Venezuela and/or Argentina or so who earn several hundreds of dollar per months or some even more. But how? Only with a big initial investment right? Where does this come from? I also don't think that it will stop. Maybe not all games will make it to the final, some will maybe take too long and will lose interest or big background investors or "ingame" investors who rapidly sell their stuff, or try to, others - getting rid of the owned land with a short loss hopefully. Yeah and then the last ones will sit on land worth nothing if some games do not come out or when they come out their reputation could be so ruined already that no new players come. Also speaking about the cheap-to-start game with old ingame investors sitting on land they paid much for then worth what? Because the problem is with all these metaverse games, the ingame and thus real value is primarly based on the interest of players. The bigger the community, the higher the value of everything but also, the higher the starting investment for new players. And this I also see as a problem here. Because even in the final cheap-to-start games land prices, value etc. is still functioning the same way as before so the later you get into the game, the higher the starting investments will be. Even if the raise is not, like now, several hundres/thousands of dollar it will still be like 20$ instead of just 10$ when you start the game a half year after its final start. 30$ per land when you start it 1 year later, 50$ per land 1,5 years later and so on. And still the games works like all other games, if you have better equipment, buildings, fleets or so you are better. And we all already know the frustrating gameplay sometimes of pay2win games nowadays that the people who have spend money simply have the better equipment with better stats. They mostly also of course have a lot of experience, not only ingame, also on a real individual level I mean, the real human. :p So starting new games is already a frustrating experience quite often in multiplayer games. Pay2win mechanisms make it even worse, as mentioned before. But hey, it is still just digital and the ingame currencies are just fictional with no real connected value behind it. Yes you can buy diablo/wow gold or such stuff via ebay or so but that is what people can make out of it IF they want to. With this new "play2earn" gamestyle this changes, it is forced into real world connected value. Also, will there be a possibility to play these games offline against KI bots for instance so that they are at least able to learn the game mechanisms before they really want to get involved into the real multyplayer play2earn thing? This mentioned, now think of strategy games for instance where you have fleets/land/buildings and it will be possible to have war... new owners could easily lose their ships/lands etc. to other players. Or maybe the games will work like that your ships/fleets/buildings will be damaged, you will have to repair them (normal in strategy games) and these repair costs will be in ingame currencies of course and thus real game conntected money. So starting players, newbies and even newbies who invest a lot of money will lose to longterm professional or really super high investment players because this is how games work, this is how pay2win works, this is how the real world works. And so far this was, in my opinion, always the biggest achievement in games, computer games. You could really be whoever you want in making the choice of the game... Ah today a hero I take Skyrim, tomorrow some space thingy so Stellars, the day after some Total War Warhammer and so on and you could do it with paying one time a single amount of money and not being forced even to really invest money, no matter if we speak about now with the horrendous investments needed of several thousands of euros or even more OR of the cheap-to-start game later, having all the mentioned points above in mind, still being needed to invest maybe "only" several hundreds of bugs. And with sales and events like on Steam for instance you can get hands easily on even AAA rating games quite easily, a good one for 10-20$ already and this compared to a game we your minimum investment to get into the game, still even with bad ingame stats/chances, will be several hundreds of dollar and still there is the risk of losing money so you need to invest further and further and further... I don't know if this will have a future or maybe better to say, I don't know if I really want this to be a future when normal, one-payment-only games will one day not being released anymore because all gaming will be forced into this, in my opinion still disguised, play2earn style. It is the commercialization of peoples private gaming time! The people are forced to invest a lof of money and time, every day, to games to stay uptodate, to not lose ranks in the ranking system, to not lose events, tournament chances, presales, discounts and so on. I am a gamer since a small boy, not only computer games, also tabletop games and even went to tournaments in tabletop gaming so I know what I write about concerning people investing a lot of money and time into a game and in the end, it is always the same when it is about money... a lot must pay so that some few can profit. And also in these tabletop games it was like that players who invested more or into more armis to be able to adapt to meta changes or new rule changes or so on where mostly better situated than player who were, like me, not as wealthy as them and could not select from a big choice of models or even armies. Thankfully I was a very good player in my game back then and thus could still play against high tier players and win, thus win tournaments and also "earn" so to say. But it was no play2earn game so even if I won some money I got it in coupons for further game stuff for instance. Also it was not allowed to give out real money as prices due to gambling regulations, just as a sidenote. But speaking about the investment again, players with several armies and tons if miniatures could simply select the best one playable at the moment, whenever a new codex, rule change, edition, supplement or so was released while single army only players sometimes could even wait several years to be able to shine again. So big investment, big chance, small investment small chance but mostly only fodder to the high rollers. But as it was no play2earn game you could of course simply play with your single army against players with weaker or adapted armies or simply don't got to tournaments or just go there to meet new players and so on and if you did not wanted to invest into new miniatures, more armies, more from this and that and so on you were not forced to. Only if you wanted to stay high tier at tournaments of course. So it was a pay2win game simply spoken. To finish this, as I really write quite a lot, to me there are still a LOT of questions that, until now, not a single one metaverse game answered to me. And as written before, I checked several ones, around 20 to 25, can't tell exactly and I still miss these questions being answered properly at any single homepage. I even created accounts at approx 90% of these games to get a view into the games, rather than just staring on the homepage but well, most games are investment websites only so to say. Something that I, as a gamer, a maybe new customer find not only dissapointing but also, what is even worse, suspicious and thus leads to the word scam coming up in my mind and that is something that should not be like this in my opinion. By the way, I have not even mentioned the gaming addiction factor and all the connected symptoms and real life outcomes here.
