When I started playing in 1990, guitar lessons were 15$ an hr. They're likely more than twice that now. The best thing about KZbin and free lessons is you can continue to revisit the lesson over and over again.

The chunk chunk lick which then leads into the 12:45 blues lick are BY FAR the most influential and downright fucking gorgeous and beautifully aggressive guitar licks i've heard in all my years listening to Marks song. Absolutely wonderful. Thank you for this.
@louislamboley91672 жыл бұрын
Yes, you right about the hardest part. It seems anyone listening to the song is waiting for your interpretation of those 125 notes. Thank you for clarifying the thumb function. I might be able to do this now since I'm close to the correct thumb speed. I was adding my index finger before and never seemed to be able to get up to speed. I've seen Mark play it live, he goes on forever with the 125 like he could do it all day. I'll now call it the dreaded 125. Great lesson as usual. Your the best on the net.
@benwess46755 жыл бұрын
One little thing I'd add to this lesson: at 2:47, instead of barring the 12th fret E and A, play the harmonics instead. You can hear the harmonics ring out in the original. Other than that, thanks for this incredibly accurate lesson. I learned to play Sultans about a month ago, but I'll just have to start over since you've captured so many nuances I missed out on myself when learning the solos.

Awesome lesson Andy, I tried to learn this 30 years ago using a cassette tape from note to note music. Where you shine is you are teaching guitar, and not just the song. So many great examples on how the chords and scales overlay the lic. Anyone who learns from this lesson will be so much better at understanding this instrument As always, technically accurate and easy to follow. I guess it is time to throw the pick in on the floor and get it right

I'm really impressed with your lessons. Best video out there. The black T-shirt and background with the bound ebony fretboard keeps everything in focus where we can see what you're doing without anything to distract the eye. It takes the mystery out of wondering if I am capable of playing a song or not. Thanks for sharing and boosting our confidence.

Imparting your music talent to rest of the world in a sincere way, makes you a class apart. Your in-depth knowledge about music theories (major & minor pentatonics etc..) is awesome. Even if the whole world is shut down, I pray that your "shut up & play" continue as long as you are alive. With your lesson, I learned all the fills & solos in a professional way. I bow my head before you, like a humble & thankful disciple to his Great Master ! May God Bless you.

Thank you. all these years I'd be playing that last lick in the last solo (with a pick) and knew I wasnt quite right, not sure why it didnt occut to me that w/out pick would have it sounding more correct. I could get the fast pull offs etc but never could really get the initial two cheeky quick notes on B and E strings before the pull off...not with a pick at least :) Without a pick its kinda like the thumb and finger are dancing together and sort of rolls off rhythmically. One day I will give the pick up for good LOL
@teleplucker68023 жыл бұрын
I use a pick also. I find using down strokes on the E and B string followed by an upstroke with the pick then a pull off with the pinky works for me and sounds similar to the thumb version used by the instructor.

If you guys are lazy like me and don't want to have to learn to finger pick these solos, the whole song can be hybrid picked, there are no chords that require more than two fingers + your pick, except for that one lick after the first chorus, but you can just strum two strings and fingerpick the rest when you're strumming the second and that works.

You are awesome.I have played off and on all my life am 64 now.I have never attempted to play lead guitar untill I stumbled onto your site.I now can play all the lead up to and including the 1rst solo.Not smoothly but I can play it.I was wondering if you use your fingernails to pick the lead or just the smooth part of your finger.I use the smooth part and it plays softly.

Yes, really a great lesson, relating the solo notes to the chords of the rhythm guitar. One thing I'd do a kind different: the rake notes at 14:16 are way to much "raked". On the record, I'm hearing clearly d-f-a and d-f-bb, where the first two notes are raked somehow.
