Brilliant, Paul! Many thanks. Exactly the sort of explanation and step by step process I need to impart to my jazz students. Won't do me any harm either, actually!

Is that a denis wick heritage? If so what size is it and why do you like it? I’ve been considering getting one to replace my old crappy mouthpiece but it’s a pretty big investment lol

These videos would be more informative if you would play along with a backing track whenever you are improvising. Thanks

im wondering how you get the notes to come out so fine and relaxed because when i play it sounds like im playing an octave above what your doing which is making stuff harder for me

Excellent tutorial Paul. Love your new studio. The Blues was my path to improvisation. I just couldn't seem to master the more complicated Jazz forms. I started hanging out at Blues clubs, seriously worked on Harmonica and took Bass Guitar lessons. I finally got confident enought bring my Bone to Blues Jams, at first just playing horn lines learning the rules of when to play and when not to play. I'm still much more comfortable with Blues than Jazz. Of course some of the best Jazz is Blues. You should have seen the look on my face when I realized than one of my favorite crazy Jazz pieces, Don Ellis' Turkish Bath is essentially a Blues. The only thing I'd add is listen to a lot of Blues. THose lines. licks and solos get stored in your brain and sometimes come out at the right time. No better source than Basie. Of course he brings to mind your mentor Phil Wilson and Basically Blues.

Why at 10:35 do you hide the slide positions with the notes when doing the blues scale? Maybe everyone else already knows this? I will have to go look it up.

Hey paul! Probably a dumb question, but I really enjoy the sound of your horn. Is that the horn itself or is it more about your embouchure

It’s all about practicing long tones . If you notice I play a different trombone in almost every video
@SeedRamples
@SeedRamples 11 ай бұрын
If you Google or KZbin search trombone long tones, you will see what you can do to improve your tone. Generally long and slow notes will improve your tone in time. Start with notes you are comfortable with (Bb through F) and slowly keep adding more notes both up and down over time. Hope you can develop your playing skills to where you want and then even further!
