Got one of these out of curiosity, and boy was I surprised. The turrets engage real quick, and I love its speed for its size. I don't bother with the 420mms. Played right, this ship is MEAN. Just keep your situational awareness up, pay attention to the ships on the other team, and you'll do well.

Well, glad I was mostly going for the Bismarck in the german BB line! May end up getting the Friedrich in future but I will not grind for it at the moment, especially considering this seems like a ship that will not be as fun to play as the Bismarck....just going to let it take whatever time it does from me playing and enjoying the Bismarck instead of flagging up etc to quickly get the Friedrich. Pretty sure the TX is good, but even if that is the case I'm in no hurry at the moment :)

Yeah, I just don't think the rush to T9 in the German BB is worth it. The USN and IJN trees would be different due to the USN T9 being awesome, and the IJN T10 being awesome.

It's a size doesn't match any H class designs' BUT one of the H39s were considered to be named Friedrich der Große so...... But I think it's a hybrid overall

I went Main Battery Mod 3 (with the 420's) as opposed to the 20% reload on the secondaries plus Concealment Mod 1 over the Target Acquisition.Figured the quicker reload on the 420's (28.2 secs) was more important than the secondaries (which are already OP).Plus the extra concealment with hydro outweighed the choice of target acquisition ?End of the day it's a brawler, same as the other German BB's and plays differently to Iowa etc.

another great vid Whiskey, I just unlocked the Bayern earlier this evening and I'm going to keep the Konig. Not sure if I'm going to put on the Aiming Mod or Secondary Mod, my German BB captain still needs 1 more point to get AFT. I think it's a nice touch that WG added to German commanders that once they reach a certain amount of XP they start wearing a Knight's Cross around their necks. Oh btw, I asked this in your Bismarck vid but you didn't respond, what is that camo you've been using on the German BBs? It looks great, I'd like to use it myself. Is it available in-game or is it some sort of skin mod?

Have you ever solved the issue of no response from the Key presses? I've had the same issue and it sometimes happens at the most inopportune times. I've tried several keyboards to no avail! Pretty much right on with my feelings about my FDG btw...thanks for another great review.

At this point, I can't say I haven't noticed it anymore. Unknown if this is because I have a mechanical keyboard or if it has more to do with changes in game code or maybe even me hitting the buttons multiple times out of habit. I had totally forgotten about it until you had commented on this so it apparently has changed! :P

I really tried hard to understand your hate for this ship but I really can't. I use play it like an oversized Bismarck (charging bow-on and get involved in CQ) and I'm quite successful at it. Got a Kraken in the first fully upgraded match I've ever played on this ship and a quite well K/D ratio. I mean if you went all the way through the German BB line you're already used to being a fat, juicy Torpedo magnet with broken gun optics dedicated to Close Quarters action against everyone and everything. And I find Fritz's gun accurancy less bad than Gneisenau's due to her only having 6x380mm Even learned Torpedobeating with her. Always funny to see those pesky little DDs getting mad at you because you won't just run into their Torps

The hate comes from not being a big improvement over the Bismarck, really, in any way except the addition of the secondary module. It has worse maneuverability and is sluggish as heck. You can't make it dance at all. I didn't particularly care for the way the ship played. It may suit your style better than it suits mine. I had nothing but trouble with it which is odd because the GKF after it is larger, and less maneuverable but compared to her contemporaries, she's actually better in a lot of ways. The extra gun per turret helps the GKF a lot too!

This ship eats bismark's and tirpitz's for breakfast, it is an absolute beast. Hard as nails and can pound anything using the 420's

I am starting to get the hang of this ship. It'll eat other tier 9s for breakfast in a brawl. I am not even afraid to brawl a yamato. I will citadel it. The secondaries with ifhe get me 15 to 30 k damage plus fire damage. It does not handle like a cruiser, but but the b hull is better. I bashed an almost full health Iowa to death in a brawl, crack a low health cruiser then smashed an almost full health tire 8 French bb in a brawl before burning to death. It was a fun fight.

the rudder might com down to that the IOWA have a higher degree of right to left on the rudder than the Grosse Fredrich

The Friedrich der Grosse is based on H-39. Also, The H-39 was the only design capable of almost reaching out to reality. But unfortunately it wasn't made. The other H-variants like H-41 we're only design studies.

Skystalker a the bismarck was the problem, that a part of a shell made the catapult unusable (what was a problem at the end), so to protect the catapult, they made this

I also find the FDR infuriating to play. The guns don't hit, the 406mm guns don't pen. And I mean, they don't pen ANYTHING. I had a cruiser at 3km at a near 90 degree angle to me bouncing my shells of it's belt, shrugged off a full broadside with something like 5000 damage. I did not score a single cit until I upgraded to the 420s. I just played a game where an enemy Roon was stuck on the map edge with a perfect broadside. 3 Salvos, no hits, splashes straddled too far and too short every time at 13km. I'm starting to think maybe the rapid firing 406 with HE is the way to go. The secondaries are the same as the bismark (excellent) but to use them you have to get inside torpedo range, but she's a huge target and can't turn so you routinely end up getting balanced by every DD and cruiser in the area. I went back to playing the Bismarck and you weren't kidding about it feeling like a DD in comparison, the Bizzie can dance around torps like they weren't there. I'm trying to figure out if the T10 is worth it because if not I won't even bother.

I think GKF fixes a lot of my problems with FDG in that you get "accuracy by volume of fire" with the primaries and the secondaries are potent too. Ship isn't maneuverable at all, but overall the ship is pretty strong. FDG just felt too inaccurate and undergunned to be useful for me.

Whiskey's Gaming Lounge btw, ß and ss are not the same (it was, but was changed at about 2000 (don't know the exact year because i was only born abit later)), in old books, you will probably read it, but today, the "normal" s (s) means you speak the letter before normal, a sharp s (ß) means, you speak the letter before longer, and a double s (ss) means, you speak the letter before a bit shortened

Interesting Kuhluh. I took German at a university in 2010 and they were still teaching the eszett (ß) as synonymous with "ss" in writing and pronunciation. The Wikipedia (reliable source, I know :P) still says it is replaceable with "ss" in typing but only in Germany, and not in other German speaking countries.

...I am a german and my german teachers said this... Well there is the "old" spelling (like I said there) and the "new" spelling. Example: Old: daß New: dass You speak it the same way, but this is, like it is today. Yes, the "s" itself is spoken the same, but not the letter before the "s" and it's not a synonym.

Personally, I think this is by far the best brawler in the game. The gun traverse speed is solid, the secondaries are deadly at 11.5 km, and the rudder while it takes time to get used to, is manageable. And the armor is probably the best in the game. I absolutely destroy Yamas and GK because I'm still more maneuverable and we all know if you get close to Yama and flank it, it simply doesn't have the gun traverse speed to do anything but get sunk. Sorry, I enjoy your vids, but you're absolutely wrong on this one. Maybe you're more of a sniper, which I must admit like the rest of German line, this ship is horrible at. But if you get close and have a dd or two to spot for you, you are a force to be dealt with

This isn't actually correct. The FDG's B Hull is supposed to be the H41. If you look at the size differences between the H39/H41, the FDG fits the bill with the B-Hull for H41 whereas GKF is actually larger. In doing more research on this it appears that GKF is mostly just made up. The triple gun turrets were "supposedly" a design the German's made for the Russian's (riiiiiiiiight) but there is no supporting evidence to back that up that WG will produce for ust o pour over. The closest ship in size is the H40B or H44 but without the corresponding 18" or larger guns of the later.

+Kies Kop Yeah, I prefer to be able to hit what I'm assuming at. FDG's gunnery is bad and the secondary build is reliant upon your team pushing. Iowa is very self sufficient with that and is accurate to boot.
