I also want to add that the 1080 resolution is a match for even scanlines should you wish to display on something that can handle it or go with a standard lcd. I know there's a lot of anti bias against this from the community, but being realistic you can combine certain devices like the ossc, or possibly even retrotink 5x to achieve this. I run 1080i mode and can even add vertical lines to make it have a proper line count effect you'll see on older crt models. This is good info if you don't have a crt.

Whoa never seen a crt with horizontal scanlines before.. My crts growing up werent vertical or horizontal more of a diode around every pixel in a ovel like "0" this is a different look than im used to from the 90s and early 2000s!

Honestly I'm not the biggest fan of the bvm look or 'sharp' scanlines. I really am happy that the game did get a filter update and it comes a heck of a lot closer to a proper display that you're meant to see up close like in the arcade's glory days and still keep it in widescreen. Honestly it's the best thing ever and now this game may as well be labeled as such too.

From what I've seen at arcades, they look more blurry/out of focus than anything, similar to composite video or S-Video, with mild scanlines, out of about a hundred games at this one arcade, only *one* game (The Simpsons) has the pixelated look. Also, I might be wrong, but I think the TV used for Buck Hunter only *has* composite/RF inputs.

Just subbed to your channel, great stuff man! Quick question. I have a 19'' JVC PVM, the 1950CG and like you said they can do 240p max at 60hz. So how then does CRU work to force 270p and STILL get 60hz? Doesnt it go above 15.7khz? In your video @2:45 you can see in CRU that that configuration is at 17Khz, sounds to me like the display wont like that. Thanks in advance!

They did end up adding a CRT filter to at least the PlayStation release, but I happen to think it looks pretty garbo. There’s no blurring or glow which are the hallmarks of CRT for me, not the grid based look that a lot of filters seem to go for

oh the native horizontal resolution of this game is 480, no wonder i got motion artifact, i didn't set the resolution right. btw, correct me if i'm wrong, i think the game can matched up with the display refresh rate, because i remember i set my pc crt monitor to 120hz, and the fps was also changed to 120fps by default (according to my MSI Afterburner). so i believe the pc crt is a less hassle (and a cheaper solution) to get this game running at low res.

TMNT in windows, the best is 480x270 and change to 480x240 after loaded Looks great on my 4:3 15Khz CRT.

You can get a BVM-ish look by running it on a PC monitor at a high resolution with some Reshade scanline filters. Like 1350p. Won't be nearly as bright though.

Yeah Reshade is fun especially when dealing with 360p games when I don't feel like busting out one of my CRT PC monitors.

On 31kz monitors you just have to double the refresh rate to 120hz to get the game to display at that low of a resolution.

That's going to cause a lot of motion blur since you're running double the frame rate the game was intended for. Would need to use an application that uses black frame insertion to run 60hz stuff at 120hz properly.

@@pt_samurai474 people say that, but I don’t notice it all. For retroarch I always run retro games at 2560x224 or 240p @120hz.

@@pt_samurai474 yeah I get that but it was made at 270p because it can be scaled 4x to 1080p to suit modern TVs and consoles. Lower than 270p cant be integer scaled to 1080p, just 720p. Unless you try 180p possibly but… really?

You can use a consumer HDTV CRT that has HDMI 1.0 inputs like a Sony KD-34XS955 or KD-34XBR960 etc, Philips 30PW9100D, SANYO HT30746 or HT32744, Panasonic CT-34WX53 (has a DVI connector not HDMI but simple passive DVI-to-HDMI cnoverter shouldn't add any latency since the signals are the same), Insignia/Primus NS-27HTV, LG 32FS2ANB, Samsung TX-T2793H, etc. The TX-T2793H is one of the smallest you can get (27" and about 90lbs) with 720p/1080i support. If you went this route, you'd want to set your PS4 to 1080i because most of these natively display at 1080i or 480p/540p and will scale 720p content which can introduce a bit (or a lot depending on model) of input latency. With some games, I use the Sanyo HT32744, a 32" 4:3 HD CRT TV, that I've had since 2004 with a PS4 Pro, XBox One, and a Series S. The PS4 supports and will output 1080i; however, the Xbox One and the Xbox Series S do not (or at least will not show it as an option for the Sanyo CRT...from what I've read they just do not support 1080i) which leaves me using 720p with them. But, I only have a few retro-ish games that I use with that TV: I use it more with PC games when I want to play something on a larger CRT than the couple of PC CRT monitors I have (a 15" Compaq MV420 that I randomly found locally a couple of months back and the 17" KDS 17XF I've had since I first built my own PC in '99, and a 21" Acer-branded BENQ P211 that I bought in '03). From a PC, I can feed the Sanyo a 4:3 aspect-ratio resolution from 640x480 up to 1024x768 in 4:3 and 640x360 up to 960x540 in 16:9 in progressive mode without the TV's scaler kicking in, but it won't accept anything lower than 640x350 (EGA high res) over HDMI (but will over component) and does support 50hz, 60hx, and 70hz (only at 640x350 and 640x480).
