This song brings back a flood of memories …. Back in the late sixties and 70’s I was a folk musician and while visiting England at the tail end of my backpacking trip through Europe in 1970, I heard this song and was totally swept away by the completeness of it musically. I bought the album. And the song “Where do you go to (my lovely) was in my repertoire. When I returned to Toronto this song and Peter Sarstedt were unheard of. There was a late night local TV show that featured a DJ who took song requests. I requested Where do you go to my lovely but the DJ didn’t know the song or artist. Eventually I took my album to the TV station to be delivered to the DJ. That evening he played the song and the audience response was positively overwhelming. In later years and most recently, 5 years ago, I performed this song in public-I always mentioned Peter Sarstedt.

Years back I was on a ferry going back to England and both Peter and Robin were performing. I spoke to them both after the show to thank them. Great guys.

Peter Sarstedt unfortunately passed away in 2017. He was from a musical family as his two brothers were also musicians and one was a 60s idol named Eden Kane.

When I first learned guitar in '65 that is how my brother taught me to play the C chord. He says he still can't play the three fingered version--I worked at it about 10 years ago, but I still like the full sound of the 4 finger C. Nice easy tune to play. Thanks and Stay Well Amazing One!

It’s so ironic as how as serious musicians we struggle to learn crazy music theory like altered scales and extended chords. Yet the music that really resonates with large portions of the public are more often than not super simple like this song.

Are you into the early days of Country Rock? Can you play the James Burton lead electric guitar intro, solo and fills from the Judy Collins version of Someday Soon as found on the studio album Who Knows Where the Time Goes? NOT the Buddy Emmons Steel parts ... a LOT of vids out there on that ... but NOBODY on YT has ever done the James Burton stuff. That is a shame because this tune REALLY helped to get Country Rock rolling back in the day. I have a feeling you are ducking me, but I'll keep asking.

Tou should listen to this 1915 italian tradiitional song about a soldier in love during war. This 70s version is sung by a melodic singer, still in vogue. Forgets if you want the Neapolitan style and mandolins, and focus on the lyrics and the melody. Wouldn't anyone want to hear such words from their loved one?
