I thought I recognised this game! Wardle is just a thief with coding skills. At least Wordle has more logic to it and helps with vocabulary skills. Mastermind was pretty much pointless, and a bit more similar to #Battleships, although better than that, obviously.

Bizarre that #Wordle has no login account so you can see various stats. It's also just annoying there's no drag and drop. The appeal is it's just a single 5 letter word daily, but they should discretely add a 6 letter version somewhere on the website too. NB: Depending on the coding, '#Notarise' should contain the most common letters from the dictionary, with '#Arise' containing the best starter letters - unless the code has been changed to reduce plurals since the game was first created (S was the most common Wordle letter, due to plurals, but plurals seem to have been reduced since the beginning of 2022 or so).

I’m a bit late to the game, literally! Started playing last week and on my first day I didn’t really understand the game, how to play it, what the ticks, stats, stars meant etc. Hence to say I thought the wordle+ game was a practice mode. It isn’t, I got one wrong. Now I’m doing ok but I can’t find the hard mode, just the puzzle plus game with six letters. Has the game changed, been updated? Or am I even playing the right game?

Hey, yeah, I remember the little brown plastic rectangular box with the holes and pegs now! Wardle plagiarised #MiniMastermind for Wordle! Although #Mastermind was more like #Battleships, but with more logic - you just had to match the 2 sets of coloured pegs, so no vocabulary skills were needed.

If you are smart and strategic the game cannot be lost. pluck, donut, arise in order for example (even with the doubled U). If you play "hard" mode it is theoretically possible to lose, but then by luck not skill (say you get blank, blank, A, C, K and there are many options. In regular mode you can simply make words with most key letters for the many options, in hard you need to leave the A, C, K). I have done the full archive and never lost. Fun game, but not quite as exciting if you cannot lose. Maybe now that the NYT owns it they will tweak it a bit?

I don't really understand what effect the hard mode has. It forces you to subsequently use revealed letters. What advantage is there in *not* doing that anyway? By ignoring revealed letters you guarantee that you will need to take at least one extra step. The game is pretty easy, and I think most people will get the correct answer in 3 or 4 moves. One important thing to remember is that the game uses American spelling, ie "Color" "Rumor" "Honor" "Labor"......

I've lost 1 out of 54 games (played on Wordly and Wordle - which I think is a copycat app). And the game I lost was only my second ever game, and I played it stupidly, wasting a guess when there were still too many variations possible. But I wouldn't call it "hard" mode - I'd call it "stupid" mode, especially after reading some comments relating to a recent news article about the game. Essentially, people were complaining that a recent game was too hard as there were too many variations. In other words, these idiots were playing in "hard" (or "stupid") mode, as they hadn't cottoned on to the fact that you can apply strategy (e.g. using guesses to eliminate individual letters). It really is amazing how stupid some people can be. And it seemed like there are quite a few people who followed the same (flawed) logic. Incidentally, on the Wordle app I mentioned, as well as the daily game, you can play regular games at any time, with words ranging from 5 to 10 letters in length (with more guesses as the word length increases). With the longer words, this increases the likelihood of duplicate letters, whilst potentially making it harder to determine the exact positioning of letters etc. Unfortunately, it doesn't record statistics, but I know I have had a high success rate - but I have slipped up very occasionally.
