Love the rinseless wet wipe method that Yvan introduced me to, makes removing the polish residue so easy. If you're a hardcore DIYer and you're driveway polishing outside (or you're a mobile detailer), you can use the rinseless to wipe down the panel just before you buff it to remove any dust, and it will help cool the panel on sunny days if you keep the bucket out of the sun.

I’ve told folks for years you don’t need a $400 Rupes or Flex DA polisher. You can do the same job with a $80 Bauer polisher from Harbor Freight😂. Now the more expensive machines will be smoother and give a more pleasurable experience but a 15mm throw machine is a 15mm throw machine regardless of who makes it. Great video. I’m really enjoying the Gold Standard Polish!

Bauer DA is borderline unusable and absolutely does not give the same results regardless of technique
@BetterThanNewDetailing
@BetterThanNewDetailing 9 ай бұрын
@@lastdays. not eve close to being true. The pad and polish/compound are what has the biggest impact on results by far. 8, 15, 21mm throw is the same no matter what machine you use. 800-5,000rpm is the same now matter what machine you use. Cheaper machines won’t last as long , are louder and vibrate more but will give you just as good results.

I have the same CTS ( unfortunately not a V) when I bought it the paint was horrible condition. Through watching your videos I now have it looking better than new. I will definitely have to try the gold standard. I always top it off with quick beads. People think it’s brand new not 12 years old. I love working on that car. Great video once again.

I recently purchased your polish and pads during your Black Friday sale. I own a black 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe and the paint has been beautifully maintained. After I used the polish the depth of shine was taken to another level. I was so impressed that I have placed another order for more of your products which will arrive in a couple of days. I also did a rinseless wash on a black Audi yesterday. I had detailed that same vehicle several weeks ago. And I am a true believer in the quality of your products. Well done!

Just re the glass - I had a very surprising experience. I was trying to remove a stubborn "film" of grime on my brand new car, and tried a compound (Optimum Intensive Polish), by hand, with a small foam pad. (orange CCS). It created micro-marring! I had watched a video on the Obsessed Garage channel where Matt said "use the most aggressive stuff you have" (in the context of thoroughly cleaning the glass before applying a glass sealant). It appears to me that glass, despite it's hardness, still has to be treated with great care!

@@diydetailofficial thank you for responding. I did a search of your channel typing "white paint". Only 4 videos showed up in the que and they were quick vids, under a minute, basically quick tips on ceramic coating. Not really the white paint equivalent to this video. What I'm specifically looking for is polishing white paint and how to get the best shine/gloss out if it. So sticking with the theme and title of this video. Thanks.

Everywhere I read tells me not to polish with an orbital sander as you can’t adjust the speed low enough, even at the lowest setting, and the orbital diameter is too small. With all your experience will a palm sander do just as good of job polishing using the same method and without adding risk to the paint? Using the DIY polish and pad of course….
@diydetailofficial
@diydetailofficial Жыл бұрын
It's not a method pros use, but it's presented here as a very acceptable option to SHINE the paint. To get gloss. We're not going after deep scratches, think instead about "shiny scratches." From 5 to 10 feet away the car will pop. Yvan teaches this method because the palm sander is so common. We want this to be easy and accessible -- learnable -- to anybody:)

Y’all mentioned keeping the heat down. Well of course. But then you mentioned swelling the paint from heat. Got it. But then you mentioned releasing solvents!!! So this rather cryptically placed hint tells us that the paint you are referring to has been freshly painted. As in, within the last few days. Of course SOME solvents are still escaping even a day or so later, but are we talking about polishing a black car, or polishing a freshly painted car? You then just happen to mention some partial respray, indicating is has been painted recently. But HOW recently. If the topic was polishing a black car, as per the title, then when you mentioned escaping solvents, anyone who knows car paint would be wondering why solvents were still being released from what we should be able to assume is a fully cured car. And for those of us who know nothing about car paint, we are wondering why polishing releases solvents. Please correct me if I’m wrong, but it would seem that if polishing could release solvents AT ALL, then the paint wasn’t cured enough to be polishing at all, unless you are highly skilled and are trying to remove an imperfections before it gets any harder, which is quite a dicey gamble to attempt. I’ve rubbed out runs that were tacky, and I’ve also polished out what was left from a mosquito getting stuck in barely cured paint. Making attempts at that could lead to a full repaint. I’ve been both places. Cocksure by removing a paint sag with heat. a polisher, and a plastic spreader, and defeated by pushing to hard, where another hour could have saved the job. I once had to remove the entirety of the factory paint from the hood of an ML320, Merc code 040 Black, because something kept reacting while painting, and I never did find out the cause. Blushing, checking, and solvent pop on the first spray. I stripped that hood at least ten times. It seemed that those sanding scratches would NEVER get filled. 2K Epoxy
@diydetailofficial

The solvents we are referring too comes from the polish. Even water based polishes contain solvents. If you create heat when polishing the solvents in the polish can be forced into the clearcoat, and trapped temporarily.

It is offen said that you should not let a polishing maschine spin freely without load because this would cause damage. Do you think this is nonsense because you always do that?
@diydetailofficial
@diydetailofficial Жыл бұрын
This is Yvan. I worked in R&D with Porter Cable, and it is not an issue. Bearings are designed for axial load( that’s exactly what happens when free spinning) they are not designed for thrust loads( what you do when you apply pressure to your polisher).
