I've done this with the exact same products. The products are fantastic. SkillinTime is totally correct: It's ALOT of work! Mine didn't turn out as good as his did but that's on me. Because. It's ALOT of work! Take him seriously before tackling this. Did I mention it's LOTS of work. I spent 16 hours and they looked "good". I should have spent another day on them (would be a total of 3 days work, 9 hours each day).

Here's a tip for you, next time you clean the logs use zing in the blue bottle it's for aluminum. It's an acid that will take the green lake scum off and bring the logs back down to a raw clean silver color. You can get it at any marine supply store. It works fast without effort.
@SkillinTime Жыл бұрын
Nice I'll definitely pass that on would cut down some of the work thanks for the pointer 👍
@timmyboylarsen6961 Жыл бұрын
@SkillinTime No problem, I work at American Marine Motorsports super center in northern Wisconsin. Part of my job is running the detail department. If you put that zing in a pump up weed spraying container set it on a fine mist start on the bottom and work your way up and along it evenly let it foam up then rinse it off. Repeat as needed, after rinsing take an old bath towel and dry the logs off and it will prevent the water from streaming down and streaking it. It's nasty stuff you don't want to breathe it or get it in you're eyes or on your skin.

Did the sanding take away those scratches? Do you recommend sanding? Great job. Thank you
@SkillinTime9 ай бұрын
If u want it to not have scratches and be like a mirror yes do stages of sanding but me I figured it was going to get beat up anyway so I just did a stage of sanding then buffed so it does have some mild scratches

Haven’t used anything on the rails yet mine are pretty clean so far but I will probably use an aluminum cleaner to wipe them down if they start to get some tarnish to them they will polish too but waaaay to much work for me lol

@SkillinTime2 жыл бұрын
I haven’t gotten to the shark hide part yet still gotta finish the other side cuz from what I saw u will want to do the shark hide in basically 12 foot sections my plan this week is to get the other side finished and shark hide on...from what I read it’s suppose to be pretty good stuff good luck on the job it’s a lot of work but like u said the results are worth it 👍I’ll post a video on the shark hide results btw
@marksmith4539 Жыл бұрын
Just a suggestion, you are using way more compound than is necessary and always go in the opposite direction that the wheel is spinning with your compounds, usually bottom to top until no compound is visible, then on to next step.

I've watched other videos on this, and they all sanded with various grits of sandpaper, but you didnt sand, I'm confused now 🤔
@SkillinTime Жыл бұрын
In my video I said u can sand with different stages of sand paper if u want to remove the scratches and make it perfect and then said I'm not about to do all that work because it's an older boat and pretty beat up so I did sand on the big scratches and I did sand on the pontoons but I didn't go through stages.....if u want it like a mirror and perfect yes do the different stages of sanding before u polish sorry I didn't make that clear

@@SkillinTime it's not that I run a metal polishing business all I do is show trucks and custom metal polishing you didn't sand anyting using paint strippers and absolute waste of time not to mention you're actually doing yourself more harm than good because you embed that chemical into the poor and you never remove it and you didn't start with a level surface you're never going to cheat a good shine unless your surface is properly prepped

@@markhutchinson8474I did sand both sides I had to in order to make the polishing easier now did I sand each and every single nook and cranny and do 5 stages of sanding hell no like I said in the video I was just trying to make it look better then it was its not a show boat its gonna get scratched up anyway its a boat and I followed the instructions of someone that actually does do this for a living and im quite happy with how it turned out vs how it looked but there's always someone out there that has to chime in and know it all well thanks for ur input but im good....here's an idea u have a channel buy u a pontoon sit out there for a week and sand it properly then another week or two polishing it and show us how u do it
