How-to Polish High-gloss Wood Panel

In this video, I’ll be showing how to polish a High Gloss Wood Panel. It’s quite similar to car polishing because the both are of 2k painting system. The complete process that this panel has gone through right after painting are:
1) Sanding with belt sander P1000 grit (not shown in the video)
2) Sanding with Pneumatic Air Sander P1200 grit Dry Sanding Disc
3) Sanding with Pneumatic Air Sander P1500 grit Dry Sanding Disc
4) Polishing with Perfect 40 Fast Cut Compound with + 100% Twisted Wool Pad
5) Polishing with NAO Compound 46 + Lake Country Purple Foamed Wool
6) Waxed with Liquid Crystal + OSREN Blue Polishing Foam

Can you use this approach with a solvent based gloss paint? The sort that Dulux sell? Can you polish that up to this sort of high shine?

Hi Grisy, I'm sorry but I don't have information on that. The panel was sent by a factory in Indonesia for us to study the best polishing method and propose it to them. They did not disclose any information on which paint and clear was used for that panel.

Henry did you not still have holograms left from the rotary from the second polishing step. Should you not use a finishing polish with a da as your last polishing step

It was very minimal, in which at the end of the video, I recommended a blue foam with the wax for final finishing.

Hey Kenneth! Yes overall technique is the same. Probably require to tweak certain pads and polishes depending on the actually finish (hard, chewy, crispy) of the clear coat

If you've painted wood with a high gloss paint already can you skip to the last step with the crystal liquid?

The crystal liquid (wax) will give it a nice waxy feel when you touch the finish. It's something optional I would say

Hi Gary Lee, technically high gloss wood panels are painted with 2K system which is the same as car paint. Products, pads and polishing procedures are the same.

Raja Suri it has a 2k clear on top of the black base coat other wise if it was paint it wouldn't have that gloss.

All these videos out there on how to achieve a high-gloss shine on wood. All have basically the same steps. Not ONE of them talks about what kind of paint to use on the wood BEFORE you start the polishing process. Frustrating...
