Appreciate your dedication and attention to detail. Covering an important topic that needs thought applied prior to any hike. Professor Poop 💩 would be very proud of you.

I clicked on this video thinking, “Oh great, another bidet video.” Pleasantly surprised. Seems like a cool kit.

Excellent video-thorough yet succinct, and refreshingly non-squeamish! Love the kit and the concept-all the right elements, well made, so long as you don’t mind the little bit of extra weight. And I can see how it would help a newbie get over the initial reticence. More power to you if all you need is a stick and a maple leaf, but this is meant for the rest of us. Thanks for a great channel. New subscriber!

Glad it was helpful! And I agree 100% with your assessment - it's a transitional toolkit in my opinion - one that is greatly needed!

Good video. Currently I use tp made of bamboo which is compostable/biodegradable and bamboo grows much faster than trees so it's ecofriendly that way too. I really like that trowel and will look into those mycelium tablets. Oh, and bamboo is native to the forests I hike in.

Awesome video to familiarize a newbie to backpacking! Headed for my first trip in 3 months (guided), but definitely keeping this kit in mind if I decide to strike out on my own with my kiddo! Thanks so much for sharing!

Yeah the whole kit is great for starting out, and the pieces remain useful even if you don't use the whole thing after wine experience!

Nice video, I learned something. Looked up mycelium and it's the fungus 'root system' that is common on rotting wood around here. I'll try to keep this in mind and grab some when need arises and put some in the cat hole before covering it back up. Currently I put some forest duff in the hole before covering with dirt as I know that helps speed up the decaying process. For me the worst part of going #2 in the woods is biting bugs and the exposed hindsight being a tempting target for those bugs. That's one of the many reasons that fall is my favorite time for hiking/camping - almost no biting bugs.

Oh man you said it! You sound all that time in long clothes and bug spray then you gotta drop trow hahaha!

Nice! I’ll definitely get the wipes and tablets! I love the concept but don’t want to carry the whole kit.

This is just phase one, made more for beginners. They have a UL kit coming soon as well!

Nice wag bag included
@BackcountryPilgrim2 жыл бұрын
To be clear the included bag is just a heavy duty version of a ziploc type bag. Not puncture proof and contains no chemical agents to promote solidification or reduce smells. It's also not very big. So its great for carrying out TP or wipes, but I wouldn't use it as a proper WAG bag. :)

Surprised there is not a bidet version of the kit.

First, I love your Google name haha. Second, they are expanding their offerings into different markets, and it wouldn't surprise me if they did! But they started with something thay would help those who want the most help getting started.

#wysi wipes ftw

Not sure how they compare but they are pretty cheap!
@CharlesBlank2 жыл бұрын
@@BackcountryPilgrim ya these wipes are pretty much just wysi wipes. I use a bogler trowel, wysi wipes and hand sanitizer/ powder soap. but I am curious about those mycelium tabs. this looks like a great kit for someone who wants an all in one poop kit.
@BackcountryPilgrim2 жыл бұрын
I'll check em out!

@@BackcountryPilgrim when I first saw this kit I thought that they were actual wysi wipes. I guess either pact made their own or they might just be wysi wipes with a pact logo. either way I think its great that more people will be able to find out about these style wipes. they are pretty much ultralight wet wipes. way lighter than bringing a pack of wet wipes which I use to do. the pack I got came with a travel tube for the wipes. the tube holds about a dozen. I'm also curious if the travel tube fits inside of that trowel. if it does that would be great for packability.

if you need a kit to take a dump you should probably just stay home.
@BackcountryPilgrim2 жыл бұрын
Yeah but they're not so . . . The kit is basically what everyone uses only sometimes better and in a case. It's great for newbs but also has great components for the more seasoned poopers. ;)
@keithqueen3522 жыл бұрын
Quite possibly the most unnecessary piece of equipment I've ever seen. You could only market this nonsense to city slickers.
@BackcountryPilgrim2 жыл бұрын
Which part, other than the case, do you see as unnecessary? The only thing it added to my traditional kit was the mycelium pellets (which are helpful,, small, and nearly weightless).
@keithqueen3522 жыл бұрын
@@BackcountryPilgrim all of it, really. The tablets are pretty neat but, humans have been poppin' squats outdoors for quite a while. I've never had an issue getting it done outdoors without this stuff.
@BackcountryPilgrim2 жыл бұрын
Assuming you know what you're doing such as where to go, how deep to dig (with a stick I guess), and you clean up with something that biodegrades quickly, sanitize, etc - then sure. But most people do not, and that's what this kit is made for. (And for those who want the typical poop kit loadout, the individual pieces are high quality too.)
@elisebrown515710 ай бұрын
@@keithqueen352 True, but our diets have changed to be a lot more chemically-laden (not just diets, but medicines we take as well), and the sheer numbers of people in some popular destinations is overloading the natural ability of the environment to biodegrade all that poop. So unless you're one of those people who just say "I'm going to do whatever I want and to hell with everyone and everything else!" you should always be following the regulations of the place you're in, being considerate to other hikers, and being a good steward of the land and waterways. This kit seems like an excellent way to do that, while making the experience as easy on the user as possible. You say the entire kit seems unnecessary, so which part are you not doing? Not digging a hole? Not wiping? Not sanitizing your hands? The animals native to an environment live in balance with it. They eat from that environment and return their waste to it, which is broken down by native microbes and mycelium and made into nutrients which can be utilized by the native plants. Circle of life - remember your Lion King? Humans pretty much live outside that circle, bringing all kinds of havoc into nature. Our poop is not a part of that circle of life, so utilizing something like this kit gives nature help to break down what we've left behind.
