@ModernBuilds Will the epoxy pour work on counters that, first of all, I can't get fully clean, and second, that are porous? Hence the can't get fully clean problem..

Is epoxy durable for a counter top for a daily use in the kitchen? P.S.: Peel and stick is always a waste for me (and for the planet).

You need to prime the MDF before applying the epoxy. That’s standard procedure. Regardless of what the substrate it you need to prime. Total boat is a great brand. I’m glad you show how fails happen. I’ve watched hundreds of videos using many different brands. Looked at hundreds of reviews on brands. I’m doing my countertops in my kitchen but not until early summer. Good results looks great
@ModernBuilds

Do you have a recommendation on what primer to paint the counters with beforehand?? I noticed the superglaze from varathane was more yellow before it cured, but it ended up curing to the same clear finish as the other total boat epoxy!
@dashshuman620
@dashshuman620 Жыл бұрын
@@ModernBuilds works best if you put a slight round over at the finish edge (top and bottom) with a router then paint with latex (sand w/220 in between coats) let dry for 24 hours. Also if you use tyvek tape (or something similar to packing tape on the bottom edge you can pull the tape and get rid of the drips. Taping the front edge (effectively damming the epoxy on top) and leave for 45 minutes (to where the epoxy is just starting to set up) - pull the painters tape and the epoxy will roll over the edge slower and give you better coverage on the front edge - Stonecoat Countertops has videos that explain this - the edges come out really nice

Hey Mike, was a cool project. But yeah priming is a must. You shouldnlook at stonecoatcountertops. They make tons of videos about this. Their epoxy seems great too. They usually tape the perimeter and do their designs using pigments and also rattle cans sprayed in the bucket (nice effect). They remove the tape after an hour or more and it flow thick on the sides, using his hand to break the surface tension if it doesnt flow everywhere on the sides. After 5h he scrape the botttom epoxy like you did. Its a slow epoxy so you have lot of time to work with.

The counter tops look great. You did a great job with the grey/black additions. How durable is this epoxy? Do you have to be extra careful when setting hot pots and pans on it? Will the hot Oklahoma sun coming in the windows have any effect on it?? Thanks for the video. It was another fun and informative one.

Depends on the brand of epoxy you use - I use Stonecoat and it is heat resistant up to 500*. The sunlight may will cause it to yellow that’s the reason I never do primarily white countertops

awesome job, been waiting for this video since first mention that was the plan, as i wanted to do something similar my self for my brothers new little man cave gaming shed at the end of the garden, i didn't wait and went ahead anyway and used 40mm thick ( 2x20mm sheets glued together ) sheet of OSB cut to L shape made a groove 2 inch in from the back 10mm deep painted the groove white and laid a rgbic govee lighting strip into it filled this with loads of play dough my nephew abandoned at my house lol ( couldn't think of anything else to use ) and shaped it using a razor, i then laid down a flood coat light grey epoxy finished with sliver flicks through it, when dried removed the playdough as much as possible with fingers and cleaned up the edges of the groove with a Dremel and finally filled the groove with clear epoxy with a thin layer over the whole desk to get a smooth finish and so the lights can shine through, flipped it over and added some straight steel flat bar across the centre from side to side help stop sag from his several screens and finally added some white steel adjustable ikea table legs, easily pay up to a 1000 for something like that built for under 300 ( £ uk ) ... all that said what you've just done is how i want my kitchen side to look so off to order some epoxy haha ( fyi I'm building your sofa design for his man cave too lumber arriving Tomorrow )

you should never do epoxy indoors with no ventilation. it's super toxic, so it needs to be well ventilated. you can severely damage your lungs, sometimes permanently. nothing worse than feeling like you're drowning from inside out

I’ve watched hundreds of hours of profession “how to” videos from professional epoxy counter fabricators whose whole gig is to teach you how to DIY and sell you there epoxy line. Having watched all of that I felt “prepared.” Even then, there were still thing that never got covered and had to be figured out on the fly. There is no way this or any single 13 minute video can prepare someone to do an epoxy counter pour. DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH FIRST!
