I just had my most productive practice session ever. This video really clicked for me, in particular the part where you spend time on something you’ve been working on “without worrying about the result”. I consistently strike the ball heel side of center and it exacerbates my tendency to hit a push/fade. I slowed down and focused on hitting the ball toe side, regardless of the result, and by the end of the session i was able to move back to center and consistently hit the ball in the middle of the face. I was hitting high draws by the end of the bucket!

Great video, I’ve been doing that exact practice routine for years now. It’s the motor learning benefit of random versus block practice. Another good variation is to take a scorecard from a course and actually play the holes just at the range. Base your shots off the results of your strike. Estimate your drive and calculate your second shot etc.
@DorseyFaught4 жыл бұрын
I’ve been doing this sort of thing more and more recently, and I’ve found myself having a really fun time! I feel like I am improving as well. Can’t wait to get out on the course the coming week to see if I can translate it there!

I imagine I’m playing a par 5. And score it. So if I hit a lovely drive I have an easy 7 then say a 50 yard lob. If I slice the drive I have to draw a 5iron. If I blow the iron I have a tight target and have maybe an 120 yard 7 punch. Score it birdie bogey par chance etc

Rick, this was a very timely video. I wanted to get serious about my practicing this winter so I could start out playing well from the beginning of the season. I started taking notes after every round of golf and practice session (whether on the range or in my basement) so I could track what was helpful and what was not. From that I developed a practice routine not unlike yours. I found that I need to be disciplined about going through the routine in the same order every time, because the little drills and mini-swings in the beginning ensure I'm swinging correctly from the start; otherwise, I may end up doing nothing in the session but repeating and grooving a bad swing. btw, one of my practice rules is to ALWAYS set up a mirror behind me... (I use the Eye Line Golf 360 degree Mirror).
