Honestly Rick, during my last game session I was all over the place with my irons. I was hitting fat and topping the ball horribly. There were a lot of shots with topspin that we're going about twenty yards and then going straight to the ground. Really frustrating. Excellent video, there are a lot of great tips on here. Keep up the good work.
@robgillanofficial6 жыл бұрын
Thin. It seems like when I try to make a move towards the target and think about firing my hips, etc. that I tend to top the ball. I must be doing something weird with my weight or no longer committing to taking a divot.

Rick, I’m 67 and have been playing golf for over 30 years. This is absolutely the best teaching tip I’ve ever heard in my life. When I started performing my backswing with my sternum remaining over the ball, I was amazed at the first feeling I felt when starting my downswing was my weight immediately starting to shift onto my left side. Great Job!!!

At about 4:40 in your demo you initiate a slight forward press pre take away. I think this one little trigger move is an important element that is rarely talked about, explained or instructed. It's an important initiation to set and swing correctly. One of the many nuances for a great swing to make great contact. Great video.....keep'em coming.

Rick, your videos are my bible to golf, seriously. After watching this video, I immediately started hitting the balls farther and more consistently. My clubs used to catch the “big ball” too often, and one of the reasons was placing the ball too far toward the left foot. Thanks again.
@ryanmayner46465 жыл бұрын
Struggled with this for as long as I can remember. I've seen a huge change in striking consistency since making changes to my swing after watching this video - so much so I hit 150 balls at the range today and only had two bad hits. Awesome instructional.
@nanolathe11936 жыл бұрын
great video. this is my next step in improving my game is focusing on compressing the golf ball. its really hard to break the habit of trying to pick it clean or hit behind the ball. id say the vast majority of amateur players dont even know this at all. they think youre sposed to pick it clean every time. shifting the weight and focusing on a spot in front of the ball instead of where my club head meets the ball behind it has helped sooo much! what a difference it makes really. and it makes sense too. hitting the ground first has the potential to turn your club head or slow down your speed. even the tiniest margin makes a huge difference when everything is at full speed
@wicksp3353 жыл бұрын
Totally agree with every word you wrote here. When I have occasionally got one shot right I’ve been thrilled but didn’t realise why I’d hit so well, just as you said! Pro told me I hit down to the ball rather than forward to target and to focus on a spot just in front to get ball-turf contact. Trying to pick it off clean is too hard to do every time!

I have always been told..”always keep your head behind the golf ball”…the old C swing… for a 66 year old, a C swing is impossible, but to swing allowing the turn into the ball to lead makes a HUGE difference in getting full rotation from an older and stiffer body!! Thank you for the simple, clear and easily practised lesson! Great teaching…

@mikecrook84342 жыл бұрын
Good video about ball position. Many channels don't mention this topic. The technical flaw in arbitrary guessing where to put the ball in your stance for each club length puts the golfer at a huge disadvantage. Not knowing the low point of your swing for each club length is a major cause of making poor ball contact. When I look at the ball position of different pro golfers (using irons) some put the ball left of center stance, some right of center stance, and some just put the ball in the middle. Those golfers have figured out where the low point of their swing is, which is where the ball should be waiting. I'm passionate about posting my thoughts about this because I JUST learned the importance of ball position after two years of hitting the ball fat due to my ignorance. I played golf for about two years before giving away my clubs (I never broke 100). This was before KZbin. With borrowed clubs and new knowledge of where the natural LOW POINT of my swing is, I'm no longer hitting fat shots which I not only did on the golf course but also on the driving range. Hope this helps someone.
