your way of seeing the keyboard is close to my view. great video. I recommend practicing all 12 major triads and all minor triads every morning for 10 minutes. then when you switch keys you pick from a known tree.

Hi. I just got a new Yamaha DGX-670 from my wife for Christmas and this is exactly the kind of playing I'm wanting to do! I'm going to back up through your videos (as this is the 1st of yours I have seen) and am going to just focus and getting the scales down and work my way quickly (I hope!) to this point as shown in this video! (Funny story....as I'm tying this, I've messed up a few times as I was 'thinking' there were black notes in the way of my computer keys! lol! It's kindof similar, except the pattern of a keyboard isn't ever supposed to change!!!)

Lol you’ll get it down in no time. My goal is to make it as simple as possible because once you get past the growing pains this will all become second nature to you 👊🏾

You could have shown how to find 6,4,5,1 in every scales the it was going to be easy to learn all 12vls, I play well in c#, but have taught myself to find 1,4,5 in every key and this works.

Hi Jonathan. I have a question. Are you comfortable in all 12 keys? Or do you find, that that are certain keys that you don’t feel truly connected to?
@JonathanBeacham
@JonathanBeacham 4 ай бұрын
Very nicely worded question! YES I can play in all 12 keys but I am not equally comfortable in all of them quite yet. For me I feel the most comfortable in G, E, D & A. This is solely because of the chords shapes being fun to play. I feel the most emotion or connection when I play in Eb or Bb. I may not feel as connected like I. The other keys but sonically I pull a very emotional sound from these two keys specifically. It all comes down to personal preference but everyone will have some affinity certain keys and for various reasons 🙂

It sounds good, but how do i learn how to add rythem instead of straight chord progression.
@JonathanBeacham
@JonathanBeacham Жыл бұрын
The best thing is to really work on arpeggios and learning how to feel the subdivision in the music. A good way to accomplish this is to transcribe some of your favorite licks and runs. It will also develops right and left hand independence which is one of the keys to playing rhythmically.

Any chance you can break down how you are playing the progressions? with embellishments? I really want a nice progression with licks to move through each key, I really like what you did @10:30 and @2:35 - would really like the MIDI files or a slow version to explain what you doing in terms of chords + scale degrees

Hi Jonathan, great video! For the hands together scales starting on different notes how does the fingering work? I've noticed that a lot of pianists don't use the traditional fingering for scales when they actually do runs and fills in songs.
@JonathanBeacham
@JonathanBeacham Жыл бұрын
Traditional fingering is helpful when learning basics but you’ll ultimately find that they are more limiting than helpful when you run across a riff or run that doesn’t work with the traditional fingering. Finding your own fingering is the best way to do it. And it’s gonna be different for everyone as long as you reach the indented goal.
