I love Charles McPherson. I've been a fan since I saw him play in San Marcos Ca. Back in the 80s! I met his son who played some great drums with him. First flight out is a great album to listen to him.

Great job at getting your phrasing so much more swinging in a few concise technical steps. A true master teacher!

This is such a good lesson and is something every player can take from. I wish the student in the video would’ve taken advantage of playing the harder licks slower so his fingers could get use to the correct way.

Could some one help me out here and digitize the patterns, the simple ones and the tricky ones. Can't quite make them out. Thank you.

Think of it as a PHRASE not a PATTERN. SING IT . then play what you sang. Get it IN YOUR BODY

I used to be like you and got so much better when I realized that this is an aural endeavor. Listen and transcribe which you should be doing almost daily anyway.

What tune are you playing in the improv section at the end, and are you just playing diatonic triads in the key of the tune, or are you using different key triads based on the chord color of each measure?

At 0:48 is the pattern a harmonized diatonic scale Starting on the root 3rd 7th 5th then up to the next scale tone?

Imagine how much more he could’ve learned if he would’ve had his scales on lock. Shame.
