I like how you left basic mistakes in given that this is just for practising. Many people would cut it out as it doesn't 'sound good' or worried they won't looking like good players, making it disingenuous to the purpose, but you kept it real. Small thing but I respect it

Great warm up, but I have to disagree on slurs. The reason why we start with basic slurs is to omit the slide. It’s a warm up. So starting low to middle gets a clean break between harmonics. It’s not about ‘when we need to play these notes’. It’s about control and it’s just an exercise. It’s the craftsmanship side of playing. We then go on beyond the warm up to practise across the slide slurs - because that’s basically legato. Then move to slurs mixed with different types of legato so they blend. Basic slurs on one position are important to start. Especially for beginners.Especially starting Low to middle... and a good low range helps the high. It’s about control. Control in one position across the harmonics , then move across the slide harmonics. Ok. Just sayin :-)

Tony Boorer appreciate the feedback, we can agree to disagree. I’m not saying that that is necessarily “the correct” way to do it (if one even exists? haha), I was just implying that it has worked well for me. I find that doing slurs using different positions is a little more realistic. Because going from 4th to 3rd or 4th to 1st is more challenging to get the notes sounding clean than staying in one position. But just my thought on it. Thank you for your feedback though, I do really appreciate your feedback 🙏🏽!

CusCampbell well it sounds great. And your tracks are top notch. You’re right in saying ‘it works for you’. Bousfield says the same. I just see slurs across the slide harmonics as a different exercise ...the slurs from low fundamentals up (slow) omit the slide, so you can concentrate on the change alone. Then add slide later. Make sure the basic slur is clean before moving across harmonics. And those slurs do happen in music - film music, Mahler, Brahms. Before slide harmonic slurs I like a slur exercise that uses across slide & legato tongue. Like 1/8 note with 1/4 = 60 (nice and slow) middle C to Bb Ab G back to C Bb Ab G back to C Bb Ab G To F. Played p. It seems easy but it’s deceptive as it’s about getting the two types to sound the same. That way works for me anyway. I’ll share a vid of me playing so it shows I’m not just words :-) in one of the solos in the vid I share I do play same position slurs :-)

CusCampbell ok. This is the video. The piece is my own and it’s based on the delay tape lagging of Terry Riley- the slur I mentioned is in an improv solo near the end. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKvdgn6uZ6-niK8

I find practicing slurs to be really helpful but not only control-wise, it helps when playing a solo and any audition music you might come across for region band or a job.
