Tonfas are powerful self defense weapons. Extremely powerful n dangerous in the hands of one that practices with them hours after hours. A humbling video I must say. Thank you for it.

Very nice, simple and straighforward. Easy for me to understand. I just made a pair of hard maple wood for myself. Now I need to practice. I have made Sci, Nunchucks, Bo, and 3 part nunchucks. All from my trees. Hickory, maple, birch, and ash. I am so lucky to have many trees growing here. Thank you.

Master Katoh; The PR-24 has a very long side handle. Most every spin maneuver, requires grip reset to align with the forearm - you see this in the video. I like to use my torso to reset grip, instead of reaching across to tap with my hand - using the body, is much faster. It also allows for a quick follow-up inside strike. - Think spin-strike-retract-tuck/grip-point the handle at 90 degrees for swinging outside upper cut... Hard for me to write out. It is very quick. I prefer to use what we call a "Power Spin" - outside the shoulder with second hand support. This spin, when striking the common peroneal nerve of the thigh, will drop and opponent, a follow up smash strike, breaks the collar bone. Those are combative techniques though, and not advised for use in common defense.

@@KohjiKatoh Sensi , this might give you a laugh. I noticed in your videos information at the bottom that I was spelling Japanese words wrong back since 1973'! I studyed Kung Fu since 1978' while I'm still interested in Okinawan karate. One time in the 1980's I made some signs with Chinese characters on it. One had counting to 10, I started to count to 10 in Chinese and my Sifu looked at me and asked, " what in the world was that?! " " it's counting to 10." I said. He looked at me and said as he smacked me on the back of the head, " NO IT ISN'T ! " SOOOO, now I have another country that I can't go to unless I don't speak. They will look at me..." What in the world? ...Another American that thinks they know how to speak Japanese. Open up the country to America and see what we get...crazy people ! " 😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋

@wallaroo12953 жыл бұрын
I use the American Tonfa - the PR-24, the problem with the katas, is that they look beautiful, but as soon as you impact a target, the kata ends at that point - you must be able to quickly retract, readjust, and strike again.
@KohjiKatoh3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your comment. That's very interesting. I should try The American Tonfa.

As with the rest of karate, the kata is simply a training tool, of course you would fight much differently if you faced someone trying to slice you in half with a sword

P.S: how can you swing it so softly? My hand is often sweaty after training a while. Do I need some oil or sand or I just simply need more training?
@KohjiKatoh4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your comments! If you want to swing softly, you shouldn't grab Tonfa strongly. If you do like that, your wrist can't be soft. Actually I don't recommend put oil or sand on your hands . If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Kohji

heres a question for you even if this demo is bad can you think of any tactical advantage or disadvantage to to the model used ? I guess one would be the unprotected handle would be easier to grab would you discourage me from buying this model? thoughts please thank you kzbin.info/www/bejne/e52xZJeflqmiepI
