Just a quick note: this video is in no way a response to how someone behaved at a shrine... I made this video well before the incident and with the sole intention of wanting to share my culture. I’ve gotten a few nods at how I wrote “how to be proper” when I tweeted this video out- I see now how it seems like a snide response but that wasn’t my intention. If I wanna be shitty, I’ll be straight up about it :) Anyway thanks for watching AND reading this! Hope you’re having a good weekend!!

Your big shrine is beautiful, and I also love the tiny shrine at the beginning of the video! That those sorts of itty bitty shrines are all over the place is sort of magical! ❤️ ⛩

I'm so glad places like this still exist. You always see pictures (and of course anime) about these beautiful festivals and beautiful places. shrines, old fashioned buildings, etc. And I worry that with modernization they'll go away like how America no longer really has old colonial stuff anywhere, and London doesn't really have old medieval or even Victorian things except for a few little places. But it seems like preserving that aesthetic is very important in japan.

Awesome video Reina! Would love to visit a shrine myself one day! We don't have any rituals like that here where i live. I'm a indigenous saami from northern Norway, there are places where the gods live which are usually ontop of mountains, big boulders or rocks that are easily seen in the environment, or in caves. People used to make sacrifices to these places, but this kind of practis isn't that common anymore. But the places are still highly respected and one shouldn't mess around there.

I'm currently in my first year of Japanese so it's awesome to be able to make connections between what I'm learning in class and also to see what Japan is like first hand. This was such a nice video! Seeing more of your culture than anime and cosplay(which I LOVE btw, don't get me wrong, but I'm genuinely interested in the rest of your culture as well), seeing your rituals and explaining things like why you go on either left or right side of the path to leave room for the gods. Thanks Reina! Keep it up!
