There is no such thing as Levantine. This is arabic through and through. and since Arabic has now been shown to originate in the same place as Aramaic, i.e the Levant and not Yemen; this should put this orientalist cultural inferiority complex suffered by some Lebanese to bed permanently. Rana you are speaking Arabic; the accent or dialect is influenced by Aramaic, our could be losely geographically termed Levantine Arabic but it is 100% arabic.

Dear O Mar, Here is a quick definition from Wikipedia that you may like: "Levantine Arabic, also called Shami, is an Arabic variety spoken in the Levant, in Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine and Turkey. With over 44 million speakers, Levantine is, alongside Egyptian, one of the two prestige varieties of spoken Arabic comprehensible all over the Arab world" I never said that Levantine is Aramaic! The title "Levantine" alone used to draw attention to this video to describe a language or even a dialect -on its own- is not. Now some may find this pedantic but there are social, political and cultural nuances in relation to colonialism, orientalism and identity that is being qualified in making this comment. And no one is saying that "Levantine" as a noun (an invented term) = Aramaic although (Aramaic) is a language and a former lingua franca of the Sham region and beyond. The term Levantine is a francophone term, and may be used legitimately alongside "Arabic" but is not a noun, rather an adjective to describe a type of Arab dialect. Levant as a noun is a francophone term used to describe the coastline of the Eastern Med, Palestine Syria, Lebanon.

I believe that the word "Levantine" is describing an Arabic dialect (these are your words of course), so the word by itself ALREADY describes an Arabic dialect :)) (again, it's your speech not mine).. I never referred to nor intended to ever mention religion before or after editing. The editing was about editing the repetiton of "alone vs only", so I think religion is something that is a figment of your own projection. My point being to use the word "Levantine" alone to describe a dialect or language is problematic for the reasons given. But this said, I appreciate the channel and content. All the best.

These morons in the USA don't realize that there are Christians in Lebanon. They need to hear that it's called levantine or they don't realize the culture of the area. Again I don't care.
