Simon, I am rebuilding my Master shower in a corner right now. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate all your videos! The only thing is I hope I did not make a critical mistake by building the curb on top of the pre-slope I made with Floor Mud. It was a decision I had to make due to multiple conditions. I am about to waterproof the pre-slope and curb with very special attention to it all.

Do you let the fiberglass mesh with thinset dry before doing the waterproof membrane?
@simonproatl2 күн бұрын
It will work both ways wet and dry.

Hi. Do you have to put a pre-slope below the dry pack? I was planning to do a dry pack pan thats sloped to a flo fx drain kit. Its going on a slab. Can i just do a sloped dry pack pan, then use the waterproof membrane, then tile? Thank you for making great video.
@simonproatl9 ай бұрын
When I prep the shower I will use dry pack mortar to build pre slope pan that creates slope for rubber liner. Then i will install rubber liner and build shower pan using dry pack mortar. I never used Fx drain kit.

Do you do the same process for a wood subfloor? When applying th first layer of the modified thinset, is it done directly on top of the wood subfloor? If so, how does that affect removal if you need to remodel the bathroom again in the future? Thank you. Going to attempt to do my master bath soon.
@simonproatl2 ай бұрын
Yes I always use thin set before the mortar. I make it a lot stronger. I never had to remove anything like that.

Your video is great content, i like it. I have question though. How long does it take the dry pack to set before i can continue working? Thank you.
@simonproatl9 ай бұрын
I usually wait till next day.

Very helpful. I hadn't thought of painting on waterproofing before the PVC liner, but it makes sense. I have plenty of Redgard so might as well. A couple questions: Do you need to use adhesive between that preslope and the PVC liner? And do you allow any drying/curing time for each layer before doing the next?
@simonproatl10 ай бұрын
You need silicone around the drain between preslope and liner. It's better to wait till every layer dries.

Can i skip the mesh layer and just put the waterproof membrane on top of the dried mortar bed? It would be difficult for me to get the fiberglass mesh
@simonproatl5 ай бұрын
Yes. You don't have to use it on the pre sloped pan. It's more important on a shower pan because i only make it stronger.
@bennisim7949 Жыл бұрын
Hi. Did you apply the waterproofing right away ? Didn’t let the mud bed to dry ? Thanks.
@simonproatl Жыл бұрын
It's better to wait till it dries but it will bond very well to damp surfaces.

I was wondering the same thing. I would think let each layer dry first because each different material shrinks at different rates, but that is just my opinion.

Excellent video! What are the exact mortars that you used in this video? I see you a variety of options, but I want to duplicate exactly your method with exactly which mortars that you used? I just purchased the mesh you recommended. Thank you!

Hi thanks so much for your video ! I found some fiberglass mesh but it is in rolls that are about 10” wide. Do you think I could still use it if I lay 5 lengths of the 10” strips next to each other and embed them in a thin coat Of thinset? Or do you recommend that I keep looking for one solid piece of fiberglass mesh?
@simonproatl Жыл бұрын
Yes. I will work.

@@simonproatlthank you! Actually I went to a Brick and stone supply store and found the huge roll of fiberglass mesh. I have 3 showers to do so I decided it was worth the cost!

Can i use fiberglass cloth instead
@simonproatl10 ай бұрын
Yes. But it can get expensive. I used it on the shower curbs in the past. You can find large mesh in stucco supply store or on ebay.

homedepot is out of stock for the SAKRETE 50 lb. Floor Mud Mortar, which other one do you recommend? I like your videos, I am about to do your concrete curb this week, next is the pre slope bed... just dont know which mix to use... thanks!
@simonproatl7 ай бұрын
For pre-sloped pan you can use anything that has cement and sand like Sand/Topping Mix. For shower pan is better to use 4 to 1 Mud Bed Mix
