Love what you do and please keep the videos coming.I'm not a do it yourselfer, "YET", but i enjoy your videos and hope to start as the weather gets nicer. You answer a lot of questions I have and wondered exactly how its done, without paying top dollar for tools and supplies, being the fact that my truck will never be a show piece worth a lot, but it will be something I drive and can be proud of the fact that I tackled the job. Thanks again and keep 'em coming.

Do you usually use single stage urethane for all the jams and then possibly use base/clear for the exterior?
@LakesideAutobody4 жыл бұрын
Yep - sometimes you can even get away with using spray bomb if its black or white and it's just a daily driver. Other times it's cheaper to just go with the BC/CC you bought for the car so you don't have to buy the single stage. Happy Super Bowl!

Thank you for another great video. If possible could you do a video on taping and prepping where weather stripping and seals meet the roof of a car. Some weather stripping can be easily removed and some like the windshield seals are tight against the body. I am getting ready to do a roof on a Chevy HHR, my little project car this spring and the windshield and some of the door weather stripping/seals are tight to the metal. Would it be okay to put something small in diameter to raise the seal so the paint could mist in behind the seal? I am open to any and all help from anyone that may have advice. Semper Fi, USMC.

Also the brand's to use or not use.
@wendellrountree48993 жыл бұрын
They have a tape out that you can slide up under the seal and it pulls back onto the seal and kinda pulls the seal up where the paint will go up under it..

Started using my accuspray for door jambs. Very low overspray and a lot of control of the material. This is the one area the gun really shines. Controlled spraying. The other function is spraying primers. I always have 1.8 & 2.0 nozzles ready to go. The Performance gun you have is a much better gun for painting panels or an entire car. But this cheaper Accuspray sees regular use for the jobs it's best suited for.

I just watched your video about mixing ratios and was wondering about door jams so i searched and this comes up. Im working on starting a paint shop. I bought a 21 gallon air compressor, 2 $10 spray guns and diablo 50ft hose. I painted my tahoe about a month ago with a electric gun and paint came out good up front. From doors on back, i had runs and splatters. In the process now on getting my building together. I had no heat or lighting which played a big part. Im do that before i attempt to paint my car again. Keep teaching!!!

I wish you success in opening your shop. Painting cars works a lot better with air for sure - make sure you drain the tank too before painting to reduce the chance of water. They do make a cheap in line filter too www.harborfreight.com/disposable-inline-moisture-filter-68224.html?cid=paid_google|||68224&mkwid=s|pcrid|385361199048|pkw||pmt||pdv|c|slid||product|68224|&pgrid=76904761605&ptaid=aud-453354162445:pla-833406503441&pcid=6550213833&intent=&gclid=CjwKCAiAg9rxBRADEiwAxKDTugeLlYok3L4IKoXrd1WGwxpFuUeuxUMLU6Ad2nwBYbC_bYI2ZHbOaBoCdh4QAvD_BwE

When using single stage for jambs, do you need to use a blending thinner to dissolve it into the original paint? if not, how do you do it please mate?
@LakesideAutobody4 жыл бұрын
Good question! If you're doing a show car, I would scuff the whole jamb and blend your paint - then clear the whole jamb. If you're doing a daily driver, scuff with the grey (I just use red) - blend into the scuffed area and finish with very thin or reduced final coat. With lacquer paint you could do what you suggest but today's paints need to be scuffed or sanded before paint will stick. Personally, I've never used blending solvent but they do make it and I believe you can even get it in a spay bomb can. I'll have to look into that and possibly make a video on that topic. Thanks for the good ?
@mickholgate33474 жыл бұрын
@@LakesideAutobody no worries mate. I've used both aerosol and a professional one and don't see any real difference between them. It does soften the soft edge (if masked that way) of the clear, but have never seen it used with single stage paint. I'd imagine you still can.
@morganbrantley90584 жыл бұрын
So what do you do with the overspray that you get while painting jams before u paint entire car ?
@LakesideAutobody4 жыл бұрын
The jambs are sprayed first. The whole car has to be DA sanded or wet sanded before painting so that is when you would take care of the over spray. The jambs will be taped off before spraying (there will be a tape line inside the door jamb - but no noticeable. Hope I answered your ?

Wipe with wax and grease remover, scuff and paint. It's won't be perfect but pretty close unless you disassemble the area and put it back together after painting :)

Do recommend single stage or base coat / clear coat for door jambs?
@LakesideAutobody3 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply. It depend on what paint I get for the vehicle. If it's BC/CC I use that. If its single stage I go with that. I notice that some factory trunks are sprayed with plain BC - no clear. Door jams have to be shiny though. Jerry
