Thank you so much for this video!! This is exactly how I have done FSA test preparation for our girls each year in the past! We work hard through the entire school year, do all of the practice material and prep beforehand, and then take the practice tests and go over everything that they did wrong, shortly before the testing date. Every year they have always passed!! We were just today notified that my 9th grader could take the PSAT in October and now is crunch time!! Your sttegies and practice test taking tips and resources are PERFECT!! I know this will prep her for the SAT score that she will need to achieve Bright Future’s Scholarship and hopefully many others!! I do have an educational background with a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in education, but now I run a family business and we do FLVS full-time! The testing options available and requirements are way different now than when we were in school!! Much love!

TheSmallestBeast Your reading section score is really impressive, do you have any tips for answering the questions for reading passages and timing?

Linna Zhu To be honest, the best tip I can give is to read as much as you can outside of class. Anything published will suffice-a magazine, journal articles, fiction or non-fiction books. Each reading section takes me twenty minutes to complete because I have such a built-in instinct for grammar and comprehension (I cringe whenever I see a comma splice. I seriously have a visceral reaction). Besides that, it may be useful to make a list of all the rules you’re missing when it comes to the grammar section, and (I know it may be painful) write short essays or analytical paragraphs on the questions you got wrong for each reading section. The idea is to figure out exactly why one answer is correct and why the others are not. Hope this helps!

@@linnazhu3083 Of course! I always love giving reading suggestions. "The Number Devil" is a very clever and light read that might help you out with the math section, too. I'm a huge fan of all types of philosophy, so I subscribe to "Philosophy and Public Affairs," a scholarly journal, but this might not be everyone's cup of tea. The Economist, The New York Times, and the Associated Press are also very good news sources. I haven't read a lot of fiction lately, but I highly recommend "The Devil in the White City," "The Left Hand of Darkness," and, of course, the Harry Potter series.

Another thing! For the love of god, uninstall Grammarly if you have it. All it does is keep you from having to think too hard while writing an essay, and every mistake you make on an essay (vocabulary, grammar, spelling) is something you will likely see on SAT. Do yourself the service of editing your essays yourself.

I just got notified I’m taking the psat in a week. I don’t really have time to prep that much. I’m a fairly smart student A’s and B’s since elementary. But I don’t study at all. So I’m thinking I should take a practice test study the areas I missed most questions on until I feel confident for next week. Is that a good plan?

I got some old Kaplan and college board SAT prep books that are from 2015 and 2016. Would these still be helpful for the 2020 and 2021 SAT or would newer prep books be significantly more helpful?

I’m not a professional, but it’d probably be better to get more recent SAT prep books. Over the years, the questions have changed and so has the format of the tests. So, I’d try to replicate the tests as closely as you can. However, there are online resources, so it’s not a one solution fits all, but take that into account if you study with older prep books.
