@@cadenced The first thing she gets wrong is fitting side reins. They are incorrect. Side reins do nothing but inhibit: a) muscle development , b) development of balance, c) development of self carriage. The number of studies that prove that are detailed and plenty. The concept that the side reins "replaces the rider's contact to the bit" is Neanderthal at best and extremely poor horsemanship at the best.

@@philvinet4145 The side reins are not even attached in this video, the horse is merely being taxed up. So, I am not seeing any such video. And properly fitted the horse stays up and open, works into the outside rein connection, and thus is straighter and connected to the outside rein. It does not negatively effect the balance unless the rider puts them on too short. The concept is an introduction to a connection with the rider. So first they are attached to the caveson, and later to the rein.

Classical lunging with side reins, when performed correctly, is of immense benefit to the ridden horse. Classically trained horses have much longer, sounder lives than those that do not. Putting a horse through a proper lunging program ensures that they are using their bodies as their natural biomechanics intend. Your comment only makes sense if perhaps you are of the very principled mindset that any ridden horse is exploited and that humans should not be riding horses whatsoever, which of course is a different topic. Anyways, this horse is not being tortured.
