i have been using an Ashford Traditional since 1978, which was all they made back then, and mine still spins like new. Ashford has several videos on setting up and spinning on the Traditional model. I have found that a little experience and the scotch tension make it the best wheel for when you don't know the character of the wool(s) you'll be spinning.

Should the bobbin be able to spin or is the tension meant to stop it from spinning?

Ok, so is there a particular way the leader needs to be tied onto the bobbin? I.E coming from under the bobbin to the hooks or over the bobbin to the hooks? I can spin my single, but I have to stop spinning to wind the single onto the bobbin. Tightening the tensioner does not make a difference.

Can't seem to find out how to attach the twine around the big wheel. Do you have a video on that part?

You don't use twine. All you do is cut a length of thin cord around the drive wheel and the whorl on the bobbin. Tie a small loop in one end of the cord like a hangman's noose only so that it slides as it tightens. PUt the other end through the knot, tighten it sufficiently. Hand stitch the remaining cord to itself . Ta Da!
