What should you #pack to go on the #CiudadPerdida Trek (also known as #TheLostCity) in Santa Marta, Colombia? Watch us completely unload our bags showing you exactly what we brought so that you are prepared when you go.
Something to note is that Colombia has what’s called “Rainy” and “Dry” seasons. “Rainy Season” is between May-November & “Dry Season” is between November-May.
We went on The Lost City Trek during the DRY season, in March of 2019. This packing video is for people hiking in the dry season. However, if you’re going during rainy season, you would need to consider rain gear.
Erin’s Backpack breakdown starts at the beginning, and Brian’s starts at 19:30

@@BEAdventurePartners the morning the hike was to start, the hike got canceled due to a mudslide. This was on 6/24/22. They closed the trail down for a week. We did another hike near by. All and all it was a good week. We plan to go back early next year. Colombia is such a beautiful country 😊👍

You’re going to have a great time! Regardless of which shoes you bring, your feet will feel it! We wore running shoes and it was hard. Others wore hiking boots and they were in just as bad shape! If you haven’t seen our entire Ciudad Perdida video series, we highly recommend you watch it. They told us that it was just 30km in 4 days. However, we had our phone GPS tracking on and it ended up being 83.7km in 4 days! It’s not easy but well worth it! We brought hats and wore them on and off. Be sure to get insect repellent bar called “Nopikex” that’s sold at any of the pharmacy stores in Colombia. Others used OFF and got eaten alive from mosquitoes. We used Nopikex and only got a couple bites each! They also recommend yellow fever shot. It’s only about $25USD at the local Red Cross down there. Best wishes and have fun! - Brian + Erin

Lol @SOCOTROCO... I (Erin) am a bit of a diva, as a former Hairstylist, I was thinking I would have time, and want to put on a bit of makeup. Turns out, only the first morning did I use it. Haha. Still learning how to BE confident in my own skin. This trip really helped me with that.

You did not use trekking poles? Did you know anyone who quit because of pain in the knees? I am about to make the trek but my knees hurt a bit. How is the road in that regard? Thank you for your video
@BEAdventurePartners
@BEAdventurePartners 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Felipe! No, we didn’t take trekking poles because we don’t own any, also we were filming so we needed to operate the camera. This trek is tough. It’s about 52 miles round trip in 4 days and the trail is extremely diff. Several people quit in our group and had to pay extra to get a donkey ride out. If you haven’t seen the videos we did on the trek to see the terrain, watch them on this playlist kzbin.info/aero/PL9draHvRc4dmJuHOvR5vFpkAty-UN-BqO Please let us know if you have any other questions! Did you have permission to visit the lost city from the Kogi?
@BEAdventurePartners
@BEAdventurePartners 4 жыл бұрын
Hey @Kevin Mayer. Not personally no. But the Kogis are very selective about what tour groups they allow in. They only let so many people into the park per day. The guides are very respectful, and they teach the visitors how to be respectful to the Kogis as well. Have you been, or are you planning to go? It was intense, but seriously one of the best experiences we have ever had.

Did you bring a mosquito wear net?
@BEAdventurePartners
@BEAdventurePartners 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, we brought the one that goes over your head, but not the shirt or pant version. However, we didn't need to use it as we wore Nopikex insect repellant bar, which can be found in any of the pharmacy tiendas down there. Buy a ton of it because as far as we've found, it's only sold in Colombia. Have fun @Warren James! Thanks for watching! - Brian + Erin

@BEAdventurePartners
@BEAdventurePartners 2 жыл бұрын
@@1971ChevelleSS yes and no. They said they area “required” so we went to the local Red Cross & got it for $25USD each. When we went to check in with the tour company, they didn’t even ask us for proof. If we knew that, we wouldn’t have gotten it.

That beautiful water beside you is so distracting. I’d consider tossing the dirty underwear etc rather than carry it back. My wife tells me underwear is expensive down there but I’m guessing the hike and guide isn’t cheap either? Lots of info, thanks. My takeaway is don’t go in the rainy season. It looked pretty nice during your whole hike.

Yeah that Airbnb we stayed at was in a pretty awesome location! And we "washed" our undies and clothes as we went during the hike (rinsing in water from the rainwater showers that were at the little camps each night). This way we didn't have to pack so much. I think the guided trip was about $300 USD for the both of us. Thanks for watching @Richard Wilbur! - Brian + Erin
