By the time I befriend the cats they are so skinny and sick and usually pregnant. Plus they get hit by cars, the foxes and coyotes get them (it's awful). Please have the balls to finish what you started, either rehome it or have it put down. I'm tired of taking care of other people's responsibility 😒 . If I don't fix them they have babies under my trailer. I have 5 acres and currently feeding 17 feral cats, it's getting ridiculous people need to Deal with their pet and STOP THROWING THEM AWAY 😑. His mom needed 700 quart jars of canned items plus their smoked meats and meat chickens. Everything came from their land. She made their clothes and passed shoes down to the next child. His dad was a share cropper who had to give almost 50% of everything in his garden plus 1 cow to the land owner in order to homestead. They had no debt. My husband and I have no debt.

During Fiona we lost power for 9 whole days. We cooked on our BBQ & used solar lights. All my preps came in handy & were appreciated very quickly. I had movies downloaded, so my family snuggled together & watched one & had a mug of something hot to enjoy. Mindset is a big thing. No power & all the extra steps to get a choir done really wears you out quicker mentally. Alot of people I talked to were wore out especially mentally. My Mom went without power for 15 days. She thought she was ready but by day 2 was drowning, hauling water for 4 horses & herself. I was prepared for this, been trying to motivate her to prep. She thought I was a horder but quickly saw, I used everything I had prepped plus was in a position to help her too. She is getting ready now. It was a real eye opener for alot of people here in Atlantic Canada 🇨🇦. Keep sharing your videos! Great common sense information & tips! Thank you!

I would think that another cost saving measure would be to combine household incomes. For example rather than your mother living in a separate household a cost saving measure is to live together and build generational wealth . This is what many immigrant families have done for years . I am from Canada and many immigrant families here own their homes and own a business. One difference is there families live together and combine their family incomes.

I received your GF cookbook and made some bread. It is VERY GOOD. I sliced it and bagged in portions for my freezer. The 1 & 2 I have in E version, but will be ordering those soon, too. I love how the print book can lay open! Your advice is so good and I wish we had downsized earlier because health problems forced us into early retirement. Now, it is so difficult to keep up with our home/yard maintenance. If only we'd have planned better for unexpected health crises. Now, we watch young homesteaders who are doing whatever it takes for them to live within their means and think they are being so wise! Also, can't wait to try your turkey recipe. The last 2 years, I canned the leftover turkey before Thanksgiving day was even over. I cleaned the turkey bones off, placing the meat in pint jars, poured boiling broth over them and popped them in the canner. Then, I placed the turkey bones in slow cooker and made more bone broth with it! Anything leftover or any produce that looks like its days are numbered, I dehydrate, freeze or can now. We have come to love soups and casseroles. The things you say about counting the real cost in having the mom work are true, too. We raised 8 kids, determined to keep me home supervising, cooking, cleaning and teaching them. There is no doubt in my mind that I saved more money by being home cooking from scratch, working in our garden, feeding the chickens, cleaning deer, rabbits, baking bread and processing our own food. Just like you, I would shop garage sales, thrift stores, bargain bins/sales. If I found good buys but something little was wrong with the clothing, I took it home and mended them, put the missing buttons on, even replaced zippers on brand name clothes that I got from bins for a dollar. It was SO WORTH it! For me, the challenge was amazing and exciting! To this day, I still have the same satisfactory thrill in learning a new way to save money or re-purpose something. Also, nearly all of our furniture were 2nd hand or even "dump" finds. When you were talking about bugs I thought I should share that I have never brought home any vermin or bugs either. I would put the item in our carport, spray it with insecticide and then I would spray everything inside and out with a spray bottle filled with peroxide. To this day, I've never failed to remove a single stain. We once got a very expensive mattress free 2nd hand that had an obvious urine stain. I sprayed it thoroughly with peroxide and left it out in the sun for a couple of days. The stain never ever reappeared and to this day, still looks like new. Once, we moved in a house that had a couple of rooms that had water stains on the ceilings from when the house had a leaking roof. The roof had been repaired, but we thought we may have to replace the drywall ceilings. Instead, I had the idea to put peroxide in our weed sprayer and spray those deeply dark water stained ceilings. To our amazement, the stains went completely away after 2 applications! In our home we have never had to repaint our white ceilings because I vacuum them and give them a good peroxide spray! Someone once left the window open and got a water stain on some nice curtains. Again, the peroxide applications completely saved them. Once, I got an antique dining room buffet that was completely in pcs. After looking it over carefully, I was pretty sure all of the broken pcs were there and offered the people $5 for it. When I got home, I used wood glue and completely rebuilt it, drawers and all. I still have it to this day. We took some stuff to the dump one time and while there, I spotted a solid old-timey roll-a-way bed with casters like my Grandma used to have in her upstairs. It had no mattress and was rusty, but the casters were still on it. My husband didn't really want to take it home, but I insisted. The next day, while he was at work, I cleaned all the rust off with Brillo pads, hosed it down, put WD-40 on the casters, and spray painted the entire thing with black Rustoleum paint. That was 30 years ago, and that bed remains the favored choice as a guest bed! For the mattress, I simply took several egg shell pads and memory foam pads and slipped them into an allergy mattress cover for the mattress. It is the most comfortable bed in this house and neatly folds up when not in use. I could go on and on, but it's so wonderful to listen to all of you because you are "like-minded" folks who love the Lord and believe that He honors good stewardship. I appreciate all of you! As for southern heat and humidity, I am with you on that. I was raised up in Northern Ohio, but after marriage moved to Phoenix, then to a hot, humid southern state. It's NOT EASY. The thing we have not been able to do is turn our AC as high as 78. Other than that, if people get cold at our house in the winter, we say "put some clothes and warm socks on." I have a beautiful throw blanket or quilt on every chair and couch! Keep up the good videos because your information is wonderful! I'm always saying "We were homesteaders and thrifters back when it wasn't cool" so we always watch real folks and homesteaders on TV. Everything else is just a total bore.

After making all in skillet, i put in egglife noodles strips and tossed and simmer in sauce for 15min. (Don't knock it til ya try it!) My teen son now wants that in our meal rotation! Will not be able to pay mortgage off before things go crazy. Husband had cancer and was out of work for a year. Doing good now. No pay so used all of savings plus my check. I cannot work now for heart condition so retired. I do everything possible to save. I am trying to pick up things to try to get ready before everything happens. If we lose things we do have a plan. I just have to trust on the Lord to help see us through. We have no credit card debt or car payments. We do have a big garden and I put up what I can. I watch you guys all the time an have your books.

And remember it’s okay to just cooks some eggs and rice for dinner a couple nights a week! We have stopped buying beef and a lot of meat and have been using eggs! Also we’ve been eating a lot cream of wheat and we can afford to buy food! So many can’t right now. It’s a mindset to spend less than you have! ALSO…one cooked whole chicken can make many meals. Chicken enchiladas/ chicken salad/soup/etc…

Exactly. There were many nights I had 1/2 can of black beans warmed up with salt and pepper. Or a serving of cous cous. Breakfast for supper is ❤️

Great video, thankful to be out of debt especially since I am in a medical crisis requiring 4 more months of treatment. I just completed 28 radiation treatments and 39 days of 24/7 chemo pump .I have a well stocked pantry and freezer. I had some time to prepare before my treatment plan. I used that time to make ahead some meals. So happy that I have been heeding your advice. For those that don't see the need to prepare just remember anyone can get the Big C diagnosis at any time. This can create a financial crisis right along with the health crisis.if you are not prepared.

I allow myself to cry. It releases chemicals in our bodies that help heal us. But then sometimes I say out loud, like you, “OK, no more crying”, lest I be caught in its loop. And then I seal it with a “nope, I’m done”, if the feeling persists so do I. Too much crying is counter productive. 😊. Don’t lie down in the den of sorrows. It’s a trap.

I just love listening to you two and you give great advice. I live in Ottawa and the convoy was an exceptional case. I don't think I'll ever forget the sight of the downtown being taken over by a lot of these characters. I saw guys getting drunk in an inflatable hot tub in the middle of a downtown street, total insanity lol

I love you dear. If I only had my daughter love me as much as you love your mom. It would be a blessing. I live alone. My house is paid off. No car payment. Only 1 credit card. And I have a small amount to pay off. I have been preparing for years. This allows me to help others. My youngest son is the only one that learned from me. The 3 oldest have been blind. I garden, have chickens and have retained knowledge from my grandmother. I just turned 65 this year. Disabled. I raised children in crisis for 15 years. Funny they love me more than the 3.

If you can't afford a pet, if there's a animal shelter near they are usually desperate for dog walkers and other helpers.

You're so welcome for the gnome card, I'm glad you liked it! I've been dairy free and grain free (except for my nightly popcorn) for several years and it does help with autoimmune issues. I recently bought some tortillas made with almond flour which were good but they were so dang expensive. Please share if you come up with some good grain free recipes. Based on your reaction I'm not even going to attempt those muffins! 🤣🤣🤣

The lady thinking about getting a cat- call the local shelter and ask about fostering a cat. They pay for food and vet bills, you just care for the animal- once their cages are full then they kill them. Please let people know about fostering animals, it saves their life. Thank you 😊. Since April of 2020 I have taken in and fixed 10 cats, 1 was pregnant and very skinny

I still owe $40,000 on my mortgage. Here in Louisiana, our Homeowner Insurance is going up next year. I don’t know how we are going to do it but I have faith that God will help us.

First don't panick. We rounded up to the next multiple of 50 on our morgage when we could. If there is an emergency expense we would not pay the extra on the mortgage but no luxuries only needs. We did also keep a small emergency fund even though we had debt.

I'm stunned you don't cut your own hair....both with time and money savings. So many great youtube videos on cutting it yourself. In all honesty got myself a decent pair of scissors from amazon (during prime day) as I do feel makes a difference from dollar tree scissors and do my own hair and really don't notice a huge difference from that and paying $50 or whatever to get it done as I used to.
@leslieb45532 жыл бұрын

Get a professional pair of scissors...I did around 20 years ago, trim that boy hair over the ears,,..mine just pull all straight in front of face with left hand,a few inches out eye level, cut about an inch off...read that in a teen magazine about 35 years ago..it works for me. Occasionally get a professional trim to get some layers in back and bulk off

PLEASE don't recommend baking soda for tooth paste. It can damage tooth enamel (as was my case) caused extreme tooth sensitivity. Otherwise great video. Maybe PART if the reason for digital is so many people get benefits and work under the table not pay taxes. That said where or what does one keep for grid down emergency fund?

I saved for years and bought my house with cash . I don't have credit cards . I don't have a car . My father taught us never to get credit cards and loans . If you want something then save up for it . Because stuff happens in life . To take 10% out of your pay check put it in savings before spending anything .

Not looking foward to digital currancy at all! Gratitude to my mom when she passed, i was able to get a car paid off! You ladies rock! fyi, Floyd Virgina taxes everything you own! As for bed bugs, you can buy from select people on face book, or other places and check your furniture purchases. You can find great deals shopping in the better neighborhoods that are cleaner and safer!

I know this chat is over, but my question is what we should do with money we have already saved in savings before they switch to digital cash? I am out of debt & have saved $20,000+ in my savings. Is it better to invest in a piece of property so I don't have to pay rent? I pay lot rent at a mobile home park.

Maybe a better term would be spending plan? You plan, but can adjust as needed based on the current circumstance. I BUDGET $400 for groceries. Sometimes I use $250, and that rolls to the next month. Sometimes I use $800 and have to pull from something else. But I normally economize the next month to make up. But, on average it's about $400. I have a separate stock up budget line item as well so that doesn't come out of the grocery budget.

Like Dave Ramsey always says "Live like no one else, and one day you can live like no one else!" It is incredible to me that people buy things without thinking about it!!? Does anyone even look at receipts as they are given to them in the stores anymore?? Cutting back can become a good habit very quickly if you let it. What is it with parents these days who don't want to help their kids learn to deal with disappointment?? (I'm speaking about my two youngest grandkids) Life is not about always getting what you want and always being happy!!!???
