Fleece bed sheets will keep you EXTREMELY warm. My husband and I had to stay in our broke down rig in 14° weather with no heat. They are like sleeping between 2 warm blankets without the weight. Amazing how warm and soft they are.

I live in Western NY.....50 miles south of Buffalo.....we are now living in a house now, before that we lived on 6.5 acres of woods that we owned and we lived in a camper and heated in the winter with a buddy heater. We would heat the camper for about an hour before bed, then shut off the heater for safety reasons. We would dress warmly and get into our sleeping bags and be comfortable all night long. the only reason we moved into a house is because our kids thought we were getting to old to live like that....we were 64 and 62 at the time of the move.

The tent idea is brilliant, kudos to whoever came up with it. I use a modified version of the concept. When I'm curling up in my comfy chair with my laptop during the evening I'll toss a light throw blanket over my head, lap and computer making a makeshift tent for one. The space heats up really fast and is quite cozy. My family teases me about it (are you hiding???) but whatever. Not for everyone, to be sure but works for me.

Sorry this is a bit nit-picky but the way you’re talking out of breath is making it hard to listen to without feeling panicky. It’s not pleasant to listen to. I know being on camera must be nerve-racking but your energy is coming thru and not good. I’d watch more if you could relax when filming.

I love your videos. We started our frugal journey 35 years ago when it was an absolute necessity. I seen the frugal zealot and our life has not been the same sense. Watching you and a few others reminds me of why I do it even though we really don't need to anymore. I really like the hutch too..(it would make an amazing beverage center)

1200 watt oil-filled radiator heater (500 watts on low) with a sub 2000 watt generator replaced my Mr. Buddy as it is cheaper overall and provides power to my refrigerator, freezer, heater, and electronics.

Great information!! I always enjoy your videos. Really miss the lives!! Just an FYI; I use, and recommend, Trace Mineral Drops. Cost is about the same, but I feel I am getting more of what I need. My neighbor also chose to use it. (I did not have anything to do with their decision.) Well, there you go, my recommendation. Keep up the GREAT work!!

Those little push lights with batteries are awesome! We have 1 in our bathroom/toilet & 1 in our walk-in-robe for if/when the power goes out & they often get used at night too. You've reminded me that I want another set of 3 of them as they're really handy & worth having 1 in each room for power outages! Just today I heard that one of the states in Australia is having "rolling outages" due to a "heat wave"! So power outages happen in summer too! Then of course it's about keeping everyone cool. I need to buy another battery-operated fan ready for summer that starts on Dec 1st here. 🥰Blessings from South Australia💕🐨

The little green propane bottles can last as few as 4 hours. They do have hoses and adaptors so that you can hook up a 5 or 9.2 gallon propane tank. Over time, it is worth it to get the hose, adapter, and purchase your own tanks vs do the tank exchange thing. There is also a filter for the stuff that flakes off the hose so that it doesn't clog the Buddy heater and that is a good thing to get as well. - We assembled our camping set up of multiple items over several years. Pieces make great Christmas and birthday presents as well.

Stayed in a little camper up north for a week and was toasty warm with a propane heater, electric and water a few times. You could light a church with all those candles. Booklights you can read or clip on things. I could replace my desk if I found that hutch.

Might add: for lighting , solar yard lights. If it is not cloudy you can charge them up during the day in the sun and have light at night. Saves batteries that might be needed for something else.

When hurricane Michael hit us, we were without power for almost 4 weeks. We had some solar yard lights from the dollar tree. Put them out in a big mason jar during the day, bought them in for light at night.😊 Learned ALOT from that hurricane!!!!!!

I have a Mr Buddy Heater and use it in my camper which I live in full time. I use the larger propane tanks and on the low setting it lasts a week or more. My camper has an alarm which went off one nite when it ran out of propane .Plus I bought a First Alert carbon monoxide alarm as a backupI live in Montana so want a backup. I am off grid and have generators and solar .Stay stocked up on gas and propane

We don’t have central heat and the bedrooms aren’t heated. I do have a heated under blanket now but years ago at the end of winter we got a deal on down comforters. And I have a hot water bottle. If you don’t have the comforter sleeping in a down jacket with a hood works. I use a big fuzzy hooded pullover and look like a grizzly but I’m warm enough to sleep in winter. It does only get down into the twenties here but without heat that’s cold

100% on everything you mentioned. Forget about emergency situations, I live this every winter. It is not unnusual for us to exoerience minus 50 C ( minus 60F). We practice alot of what you said just to save on the natural gas and power bill, let alone when we lose power, which happens on a regular basis out in the wilds where we live. A few options or additions to your list. 1. Hot water bottles. Fill them up with boiling water, the heat will last almost all night, plus, to buy them new is around $10. Get one for every bed you have. 2. Dress in layers. Long johns or leggings, under a pair of flannel pants or pj bottoms. If you need to be outside, put a pair of ski pants over top. I have a really good pair of winter bib overalls I wear over my longs and flannels with 3 layers of winter undershirt, cashmere blend turtleneck and wool sweater and my winter jacket and I am toasty warm while im out. 3. FUR.... i know I'm going to get some flack on that, but the Inuit people have survived in fur for millennium. Fur lined trapper hats, fur mitts, fur lined mukluks. They arent cheap, but they will last forever if taken care of. We also have some buffalo robes we have used on the bed when we lose power. Most will not have the means to own one, but if you do, get it, especially if you live in the northern US or Canada. Another option is pure wool comforters. Again, not cheap, but a true investment. Ours were my greatgrandmothers, over 100 years old. So they last forever if taken care of. 4. DO NOT USE A CAMPSTOVE IN THE HOUSE. Cook outside. This is not a fire issue, but a carbon monoxide killer. Same for sitting in a running vehicle. If you do need to, to stay warm, make sure the garage door is open and you crack open the car windows. Carbon monoxide is a silent, oderless KILLER! 5. WOOL, like you mentioned, not just sweaters and blankets.....socks, hats, and sweaters. Wear mittens instead of gloves, or wear wool mittens over your gloves. 6. Stay hydrated! Drink lots of warm drinks. Do not eat snow or drink cold water. When its cold, you expend too much body energy to warm back up after consuming snow. 7. NO ALCOHOL. I know, the image of the brandy flask on the collar of the St. Bernard Dog is romantic, but alcohol actually constricts the blood vessels, reducing your core body heat. 8. Make sure you get up and move on a regular basis. Dont get sweated up, but moving around will get the blood flowing, which does help keep you warm. 9. If you dont have a tent you can set up to sit and sleep in, build a blanket tent uo, like you did as a kid, over a table. When you go to bed, sleep in pairs. Shared body heat will help. That includes your kids. Moms can sleep with daughters, dads with sons. However you feel comfortable with, put bodies as close together as possible.

Christmas is right around the corner and staying with the video, I recommend looking into headlamps for people on your gift list (don't buy a cheap one because yes they are to cheap and don't last. Get a middle of the roed price one). There are so many times that we need light but we also need both of our hands free too. We absolutely love ours and we use them all the time. Get some extra batteries too and you have the perfect gift ❤. Happy Thanksgiving everyone ❤.
