Hi Reg, I’m a DVSA examiner and IAM member and watch most of your videos. Really great comments about the octagonal stop signs, you wouldn’t believe the amount of fails we get for candidates peeping and creeping (sometimes brilliantly I may add) but not completely stopping. Such a stupid way to throw away a driving test on what is a legal requirement.

100% accurate.

I used to advise learners to apply the parking brake at a stop sign to show the examiner that they knew the difference between a stop sign and a give way sign.

Another nice one! As a fleet driver trainer/assessor I am pleased that you have shown this. This should be the minimum standard for any fleet driver, not just police. I do a very similar program for car drivers to heavy vehicle drivers. Overall I spend around two hours but that includes pre-start checks and telematics awareness. I am limited to where I take drivers - in and around central Sydney. My programs are all based on police (UK and New South Wales) principles due to being 'weaned' on Roadcraft continually from over 50 years ago. Also I use both UK and Australian national standards for driving competence as guidelines. Many thanks - now I know I am doing it correctly!

Good advice. BDA or BDA plus can put huge pressure on such permit hokders... especiallly if sent to assistance shouts. The job can be tough on those that bend the rules re unauthorised use of exemptions. Hope this helps some.

Fabulous. Really enjoyed that.

Very strange, As a Met police officer the basic driver assessment for me consisted of just a familiarisation with a police vehicle (Essentially someone showing me the vehicle controls) and a online exam.

Should be a standard ten year assessment for everyone. Not a vote winner unfortunately so will never happen. Plus if it did there would be no taxi drivers left 😄😄
