Okay, that's straightforward enough, but what about fast dual carriageways with tiny slip roads?

Just wondering your opinion on how a driver is expected to indicate coming off a roundabout in a Tesla Model 3 with no stalks but just buttons on the left hand of the steering wheel. If you are following a pull push technique your hands are going to be no where near the buttons which are placed vertically on the horizontal arm - not even on different sides of the wheel.

I've found your IAM videos very helpful. Thank you. One topic I would love to see is on roundabouts, and how IPSGA applies to different situations on them. I ask because the IAM training I'm on at the moment is emphasising that if it's safe and legal to do so, you can position to straighten your line through roundabouts (potentially cross lanes), but also look for opportunities to "progress" past other road users that are approaching or already queuing at said roundabout. In one case recently, we approached a busy roundabout with 3 lanes. Left, ahead and right. We were driving ahead. I was queuing in the ahead lane as I didn't see an overtake opportunity given how busy the roundabout was and no gaps between the cars in front to step-stone. The IAM instructor rode past me in the empty turn-right lane, overtaking the queue, but then once at the roundabout he used his bikes acceleration to quickly get past any car coming out of the ahead lane, to then take his ahead exit. Effectively crossing lanes mid-roundabout from the right-turn lane to the ahead lane. I'm sure such maneuverers also make the car drivers grind their teeth. Overtaking and/or straight-lining on high-visibility country lanes is one thing and in my opinion relatively safe, but I feel significantly less safe and at more risk to being pulled over by a Police officer, for doing these more aggressive types of things on a roundabout. I'm all for progress, but it should be tempered, even if it's technically safe and legal to do some of these things.

I know that you like going up and down Hartside pass. but you spent at least half of it riding on the wrong side of the road ? How's about riding on the correct side more often but then you would have to slow down just a little from you maximum speeds on out our NSL country roads. , Please tell me where that is in the more recent Roadcraft, what chapter is it in? Its something that police officers my need to learn in order to fulfil their obligations for his job but is it necessary for the use of the public,? some 40.million of them on our road, do they want or need to offside at all? as rtge maximum speeds they can ride at. If they do it as often as you do the roads would be chaotic and no one would get anywhere due to the dangers created by your way of riding, I have mentioned before of your preponderance and apparent disposition with the lifting of your left hand off the handlebars and yes you are still doing it frequently. Can you not speak without this constant gesturing. Its not really as safe with one hand on the handlebar is it? I think that you would agree that if a candidate did what you did its would be an instant fail. Would you not agree. Finally you are a dangerous man REG. We all know that's not you name but why should you be so ashamed of using you own name at all if what you are teaching is perfectly correct, SAFE and lawful. By the way Reg, From what I have seen about what you are teaching it appears to me that you are mistakenly teaching civilians how to ride like a class 1 police officer. That is as fast as any vehicle between your legs can go whereas civilian advanced riders can only ride at speeds up to the 60 mph National limits on country roads and that make them class 3 riders and the same as any police officer that had undertaken and passed a standard police driving course.

I just wanted to say thanks very much for putting this series together. I have this morning passed my IAM Roadsmart test (I’m super stoked😍). My local IAM Roadsmart group, WAM, have been fantastic and your videos have helped me no end as I have short term memory issues from a previous motorbike accident many years ago. Keep up the great work 👍

Lifesaver checks are something I do all the time, even when I'm in the car, I've had a few cars leaving it to the last second to leave the motorway and cutting across in front of me from lane 2 or 3 while I've been in lane 1, I keep telling my son to check his blind spot before he turns or changes lane in his car

The car is not resisting anything. In this example you were first decreasing the car's velocity, and then increasing the car's velocity. It takes a combination of time and force to change that velocity. It's a silly concept to imply that the car Is anything but an inanimate object and that it is resisting.

Perception. Depth perception, timing perception, speed perception are just three that come to mind. Each driver has different degrees of perception, or lack of it for most drivers. You can talk to someone all you want about how to do a double front flip But it would be extremely difficult for that person without an awareness, perception and connection to their own body as to how to actually carry that out. If you have a relatively keen perception of depth and timing through space while traveling you could be the passenger in 10 different vehicles with 10 different drivers and come to the realization that each had different abilities. I believe that without being subjected to a closed circuit controlled course most drivers have no idea What distance their car requires to stop at a given speed on a given course through a given turn at a given temperature at a given humidity with a given amount of gravel, oil, or antifreeze on the surface. I'm saying that these videos and information is essentially rubbish and useless as each driver is severely handicapped or facilitated by their natural talent and the deliberate practice of that talent.

When you refer to police "exemption" for speed limits surely that is only when they're using lights and sirens not just patrolling or riding around.

Very helpful information, I'm looking at doing advanced rider training, possibly with ROSPA. This series of videos has been very informative. You're spoilt for choice with the roads in your area, not much like those roads in the Cotswolds just miles of overgrown hedges

Reg, I just wanted to thank you with a little contribution for the massive contribution you and your videos have had in my driving life. This morning 3 Nov 24, I passed my IAM advanced driving test and got a first from an examiner not known for giving them away. He was extremely complementary about my driving and especially my commentary. I have had 9 observed runs with my observer / instructor and watched your videos over and over again all of which got me to that point of passing. I know you like the Highlands so you will always have a warm welcome if you are up here again. We are in Forres so please do pop in for a brew. I am often in Cumbria meeting my Land rover mates down there so who knows I might see you on the road too. Take care. Simon.

At 11:13 minutes into recording please explain action taken at mini roundabout where it appears it is driven over against HC Rule 188 and in contravention of Laws RTA 1988 sect 36 & TSRGD regs 10(1) & 16(1) Also at 20:19 in Pooley Bridge but not as pronounced, clipped but, in my opinion did not treat the roundabout as a full one. Or what am I missing?

I would have thought the revs would come up by themselves between a gear change without extra accelerator. When the engine is no longer pushing the car, with constant throttle the revs will rise. You might even need to back off a little bit if it's only one gear down.

Something you’ve always advocated in previous videos but no mention here is keeping a positive throttle through bends. That really helped my smoothness and stability through the twists and turns. Great video as always.
