Hi, when I was in high school I was always considering dental assisting and dental hygiene as a career. I started out by being an assistant just to get a foot in the door for the field and to see if i actually enjoyed the dental field. I did end up loving the dental field and currently completing prereqs for dental hygiene school. So I would say to try and do dental assisting first to see if you enjoy it and if you do then move forward from there. Good luck!

Hey! I am a hygienist and have been for 5 years now. I was just like you when I was in highschool too! Debating whether I should do dental assisting or dental hygiene. What changed my mind? Shadowing, shadowing, shadowing. I recommend to anyone who is considering a particular major or profession to always shadow as much as you can, because sometimes what you think a job will be is actually different on a day to day basis. One of my videos I talk about how I got accepted and what made me chose a path in dental hygiene. I say do what you think you will like the best! I am not for sure about the pre requisites for dental assisting. I do have friends who were assistants, hygienist and now dentist! Good luck but remember to shadow!

I am thinking of doing dental assistant classes before considering getting into Dental Hygienist. it is hard to get in and I only have two options right now. one near me which stated they accept those in high school first but they also accept adults or risk it take the train to and from school but the good thing about this is that we get a discount for the train rides, going to need a bike though to get to that location. not that far from the train station. I will do both TEA's and another tests and whoever accepts me first. I will attend. thank you for this video.

Naya Meeks hey love ! If you fail one class in the program , in the one I was in , you get kicked out and have to re-apply and most likely will get re-accepted. If you are in your last year , you have to wait until the next class and restart there .

However, I'm worried about the back/neck problems that may arise because I already have scoliosis but its not anything too severe.
