How to prepare to draft your fantasy basketball team: a beginner's guide!

Just finished 10 team H2H 8 cat draft $500 price. Was able to get AD,KD,PG,Harden,Vanvleet,Butler,Harris,White,Kuminga,John collins,Duren,Castle,Schroder but only projected 3rd in standings, any tips?

@Deepfknvalue Your team is a beast already. Strong in FG%, points, RBs, and assists. Solid in FG% and blocks. I could see you punting on 3s throughout the season and potentially steals, but either could be bolstered with the right free agents. If you punt on 3s, your FG% would probably rise as well. Don't hang your hat on Yahoo projections. I would be ready to dump Castle for a hot free agent in the first few games. Someone always pops up that no one saw coming.

@@Slickrach Thanks, but actually I was ranked last in my league for points, looking to punt that tbh, do I dump schroder or castle first tho? Drafted castle cuz I really like how he plays

@@Deepfknvalue I don't see that projection being too accurate. I think you have 2 guys averaging less than 15 points per game - Castle and Collins. And Collins only misses it by a fraction. You'll also have 5ish guys averaging more than 20 PPG. Rookie PGs are a tough hold, especially when they are coming off the bench or playing behind veterans. Tre Jones and CP3 should have the ball in their hands more than Castle to start the season. I would guess he won't have value this year until much later on, if at all.

Im stuck chosing my 5 keepers. I have Ja Morant, Lamelo, Jalen Johnson, Sengun, Myles Turner and Irving in a League with 12 teams Weekly locked in Positions: PG, PG, SG, SG, SF, SF, PF, PF, C, C, BN, BN, BN, BN, IL, IL Cats: Field Goal Percentage (FG%), Free Throw Percentage (FT%), 3-point Shots Made (3PTM), Points Scored (PTS), Offensive Rebounds (OREB), Defensive Rebounds (DREB), Assists (AST), Steals (ST), Blocked Shots (BLK), Turnovers (TO) Who are the keepers here? (my keepers are all pretty injury prone :( )

@NeoDragonKnight I would pass on Morant or Turner. Pretty even in this build. Sad to say, love their games. That's a tough one.

@@Slickrach thanks, ya these are the 2 im stuck on deciding. Ja has been injured to the point he may go the way of Derrick Rose but does provide huge points and assists, and Turner who while injured provides off position 3s, and blocks, but at the cost of O and D rebounding. Im leaning on dropping Turner, as in previous years I could say he was injured, but last year he really exposed my team in rebounding as he was getting destroyed at O and D boards from later round centers who were just flat out rebounding and in many cases providing just as many blocks or marginally less. I really thought his rebounding would go up without sabonis but it didnt. I dont think it would have been an issue having him if it wasnt weekly locked rosters. Im pretty stuck right now :(

@@NeoDragonKnight yeah it’s a tough call but I can see how those rebound number hurt you. Ja will be more fun to watch for whatever that’s worth. If I have 2 guys I can decide between, I sometimes ask myself who I’d rather root for throughout the year.

Why not as a last round flier? Murray is gone, he should start and might have an increased role. He was on and off rosters last year even with Dejounte and Trae dominating the ball. You could do worse! Or you could be right and you chuck him to the wire asap 😂😂

@@Slickrach he's been starting for years and just been bang average fantasy wise, i doubt he's gonna have a breakout year suddenly. i reckon you're better off taking someone with more potential upside that late and try to snag him off free agency if he pops off

@@scottllewellyn8221 that’s why he’s a flier. A guy with some more opportunity late in a draft. I haven’t been targeting him, there are other guys I like better late, but he will be a watch list guy.
