We add a 40 watt lightbulb to our chicken coop in the fall and winter, inside. We make sure to place it away from their roosting area so they can rest. The shorter daylight hours can be extended that way until 9 P.M.We put it on a timer so it shuts off. Works great for keeping up winter egg production.
